Summer fun

What does everybody like to do for fun in the summer? One of our favorite activities is boating.  We have 2.  A cabin cruiser and a speed boat.  Hubby build the speed boat (from scratch) the year before he started diaysis and he did the cabin cruiser about 5 or 6 years ago while he was on in center dialysis. . 

Things have changed since I was on Dialysis ... They barely let me bring in movies to watch and
your husband built a Boat .  That must have been a big unit.

Twirl, I'll ask my husband about the seafood in Galveston. He may know a good place.

I love the Gumbo shop in New Orleans. I'm drooling now thinking about it. The gumbo's awesome.. jambalaya, etoufee... mmmm  Now I am drooling again. I made red beans and rice tonight, but it was not the same as the gumbo shop's!

Beaufort also has some pretty good eating places (what's the name of that place I love there?  Is it the Sanitarium?  Strange name, great food!).

It's the Sanitary Fish Market you're thinking of, I think!  There are a couple of marine laboratories in the Beaufort area and I occasionally go down and have eaten there.  I remember good food there, too.

Stephen and I are going to stay at our friend's house in Buxton, near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the first week in August.  It's on the sound and has beautiful sunsets.  We went last December for a weekend.  We took the ferry to Ocracoke and even though mostly everything was closed then - early December - it was nice weather and it was fun to walk around.  Other than that trip, we haven't had a real vacation in awhile.  I am looking forward to time in a beach chair with a good book.

Any restaurant suggestions for Hatteras, Buxton or Ocracoke?

Hmmm... Babin's has two kinds of gumbo.. one with the roux base and the other is a dark dark broth with clams and shrimp -- no sausage or chicken. I'm not sure I remember having gumbo anywhere in Glaveston that was any good. There is a place called the Cajun Greek that has been around forever -- hole in the wall type of place, but we've only been there once and didn't have gumbo. I'll PM you a website that has a lot of Galveston restaurants with their menus, maybe that will be of some help.

Here are some pictures I took when we were out in our boat last night.  The first one is a natural rock formation that looks like a man's face. It is called hayward's head.  Even has a tre growing from the top that looks like hair. The other pictures are friends in a boat next to us and hubby with a codfish that he caught.

That's another codfish boxman.  Think it's the biggest one I have ever caught with a rod and reel!!  It was caught in the Atlantic Ocean!!!  Newfoundland is an island in the north atlantic.  Actually boxman most of the cod we caught last night wasn't big enough to keep. They were about the size of the little one hbby is holding up with my big codfish.  Have to throw the little ones back to let them grow!!
