PD training

I had my first "official" day of PD training today, and it went fairly well. My nurse showed me all the sterile procedures (most of which I already know from doing HHD for a year), she did a transfer set change, and flushed my catheter with about 150cc of dialysate. Only a little of it drained out, though, possibly because my body may have immediately absorbed it because I'm a little too dry. I also found out that I'll be getting my first shipment of PD supplies on Friday (oh, goody! Now I'll have to store both HHD and PD stuff for awhile.) My next training day will be Wednesday and I will fill with one litre  and do a 30min dwell. So far all is well, and I'll post updates as it goes.

I had my first 1L dwell for 30min today. The fill went perfect, and it did feel weird having that fluid in me. We were concerned because when I went to drain, it wouldn't drain. My nurse had me change position and kind of press on my belly and suddenly a HUGE mass of fibrin shot out and I started draining perfectly. Oh geeze! I hope the cramping during drain goes away! My nurse is planning for me to be off of hemo by next Friday. With the nurse watching closely, I did every part of the exchange myself. All in all, a very good session.

Adam ....just a note , the cramping you mention on drain , is actually more like tugging ,its when you get to the end of the drain . When you feel that start to come on , just stop the draining , most of us get it and it doesnt go away , but just mention it to the nurse and if she doesnt care , stop the drain at that point yourself , there is hardly any fluid left in by then anyway. Also keep an eye out for that fibrin , some people have problems with it , others dont ! .

I just wanted to tag my comments on what KICKSTART mentioned because I'm dealing with the same issue.  After 9 months for me, I still have pain at the end of my drain.  But, fortunately I've learned to time it correctly and stop my drain before the pain gets worst.

As for the fibrin, my first day of PD Trainining I too had fibrin.  My nurse used heparin in all the solutions that I was going to use for the day.  This worked and never saw another fibrin until a month ago.  So for 8 months I didn't have to use heparin.
