Totally devastated

Well it was only yesterday i wrote of being top of the list for a move and really near my family ..well today all hopes have been dashed as someone has been moved to the top of the que in front of me. I rang the housing up and was told that nothing could be done regardless of what letters i send in from my specialist ,as i had the maximum number of points i could possibly get and this other person has been waiting longer than me and has just a great a need to move.
As you can imagine my frame of mind is not great as im already coping with newly diagnosed depression. None of 'these officials' have a clue what we have to cope with on a daily basis , let alone a set back like this.I just wonder how many times a person can bounce back before they throw in the towel altogether ?

Oh KICKSTART, I'm so sorry to hear this.
Your going to get that call for a new place and it will be a better place. You'll see.

kickstart i just reread your first post on this and you know you could come out ahead, start getting things organized and ready to go and when you get your next call you can laugh in their faces because you are ready to walk out that door
go eat a nice dinner, have a drink ( well, a small one) and celebrate
it will happen

What I CAN understand is how you must be feelin right now
What I CAN`T understand is how the Housing did not know about this other person BEFORE telling you that you were # 1 on the list..

You are not throwing in any towel, unless it is into the laundry basket when you get back from the beach! i am so sorry that you are going through this, but always remember you have hundreds of people all over the world rooting for you.
Let that help you to get through this.

I understand how you feel KS, everyday I struggle to get out of bed and try to put my best foot forward and I'm gonna give it my best. Everyday i go home and sometimes like today I stay home because something always sets me back. I have had some real dark moments but somehow we seem to just keep on keeping on as (Goofynina would say). Please take care of yourself today, be a little selfish, try to rest, have a good cry, and when you have done all that, just know we are praying for you and we are in your corner and your feelings are important to all those who reply to your posts. Some days that may be all we have. Tomorrow is a new day.

Kicks, that what I imagine this feels like for you, kicks in the gut. It's not fair, it's not right and it sux. We're all rooting for you to get moved soon and I wish we could all march down to that office and MAKE them understand this struggle they have no idea about. I'm so sorry about this setback for you.

I agree with Celtic Warrior - how come they've only just noticed this person with greater need?
You should get on to your local Councillor and MP - stir them up a bit, you get nothing in this country (UK) for sitting back quietly when it comes to social housing. This stinks - suddenly finding someone who is ahead of you, I don't believe it
Anyway no throwing in towels, it's seconds away round two

I am so sorry K.
I too wonder why they would get your hopes up one day then the next you've been pre-empted.
Something's fishy if you ask me.
I would keep asking questions. Don't give in!

I agree, don't give in! Get KitKat's big stick and go knock some heads around until they get you to the top of that list!!!!
Get some documentation together and challenge this decision. Maybe that will help??

What I don't understand is that if you were first on the list, but this other person had been on longer, why weren't they first on the list to begin with? In other words, why did they get your hopes up for nothing? I think you need to ask some questions and take along kitkatz's big stick to use until you get some answers!

Well i went into the office today armed with 2 further letters , 1 from my specialist and 1 from my renal home nurse both saying as strongly as possible how i needed this move and how my health was being stressed even more and guess what ..the lady i needed to see was 'in a meeting' suprise suprise !! When i said i would wait ,i was told it would be quite some time if i could even then get to see her. So i explained the situation to the other lady on the desk , but no joy , they wont budge ..not a cat in hells chance. I know what you are all saying about not giving up but im going to have to . You see houses only become available over here with this housing company once every month and i just cant keep going every month wondering if i will get one next time. I need to settle down , turn my house into a home not a stop gap , and if i spend what little money i have on this house , then i cant afford to spend money on another one if it comes empty. So i really have to decide that im going to stay here now , than have my hopes raised again ..i waited 3 years on the list for a suitable house near my family ..it could be another 3 yrs before another comes up ..who knows !

Well Kickstart if that's what you have decided then I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world. But I know I'd not give up until I'd written to my MP, the Press and local Councillors - honestly our MP (Philip Dunne) would not sit back and let this happen (and I didn't vote for him so am not bigging him up!). Isn't there anyone who will take this up for you? I wish I lived nearer. It's an utter disgrace.
Wishing you all the very best, I'm sure you've made the right decision for you - I do understand where you're coming from
