Day 6...Fever again.  I called the advice nurse on Saturday and they had me go to the Urgent Care.  When I got there they informed me that they do not do any blood work.  So that was useless.  My neph usually comes in on Mondays but did not today for some reason.  I will call my neph and PCP tomorrow.  I feel horrible.  :(

Do you have a primary care doctor? That's a long time for a fever and you should be checked for a serious infection.  :cuddle;

I saw my PCP today.  He thought he would have the results from some blood work they pulled.  I called after 4:30 like he said but he was not available.  He has not called back and the office is closed.  He will probably call tomorrow.

Saw dermatologist Tuesday and had a skin biopsy to rule out skin cancer. Results came back yesterday. Findings were not what doc expected, a mole. I am now in a class of rarely seen skin cancers in offices I am told. No idea how to spell the skin cancer found (bohens, bowmans?), but it was all taken out in the biopsy and these stitches itch! I will ask the nurse next Friday for more information when my stitches are taken out.

10 nights with a fever and counting.  Wicked headaches, and I have not been able to keep my dinner down.  The PCP told me that my white count was actually low and that I am anemic (big surprise).  The head nurse at D said that the prelim readings on my cultures were negative.  She suggested that I go to the ER.  I said that I did not want to be admitted.  She said that was the point.  I think that they would not do anything until Monday and I do not want to spend Father's Day in the hospital.

Oh, Marc, this does not sound good. I completely understand not wanting to spend Father's Day or any day hospitalized and probably would have made the same decision as you. Have they at least prescribed you an antiviral?

Anyhow, Happy Father's Day to you! I hope you are feeling well enough to enjoy and that you can spend some fun time with your kids.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads of IHD.  :flower;

I went last night. I do not have meningitis, I do not have an UTI, I do not have pneumonia. They do not know why.  They thought I was a pin cushion.  The needle in my spine was the worst! Ouch!

Glad to hear you at least got it checked, though frustrating that they do not have answers for you. Your poor arm....

I've done the spinal tap when I *did* have meningitis, so can relate. I think the morphine they gave me was so awful I did not have the energy to care about the needle digging around in my central nervous system.

Perhaps whatever you've caught is on the way out? You may have had one of these infections but it is no longer detectable. I am convinced I had pertussis a few months ago, but I waited a few weeks to get it checked and the test came up negative. I'm hoping this is a good sign for you.

Hi, one and all. Sorry to hear about Ylguy. Hope you are sorted out now.

I have have had ups and downs since my last visit. I am still way down on the list of getting a transplant. Now a member of the D club since April 2010.   Still hate every second of it. Some heart issues but I am still working full day.

I hope all has been well here in IHD land.

Uncle. Yesterday afternoon I am referred by the nurse to head back to the ER. As I am driving there the left side of my face goes numb as do my left arm and leg. Guess what? That gets you to the front of the line. It is a TIA: a temporary stroke. I get admitted and finally get out today. All is well except my smile is a little crooked still. The doctors think it is all related to the fever thing and to follow up with the specialist. Should I just make a reservation at the hospital for next weekend? lol

Do you want my hospital speed pass YLGuy?

1 full day left before my trip. Just have to pack up my laptop and a couple dress shirts. However I still have a lingering cold. If plans are right, I will post pictures of my guide dog by Thursday. They say we get our dogs on day 3, but day 3 is July 4 and I don't think we are having class that day, b ut never know.

This is alarming, Marc. Gwyn asked if there is anything he can do to help. He is less than an hour west of you, if you think you could use his help at some point, let me know and I will send you his contact details (unless you've already got them?)

Take care and keep pushing everyone for answers. :cuddle;

Chris: I can't wait to see the pics!

Cariad: Thank you.  I do not think there is anything Gwyn can do but that is very thoughtful.  I have a concern that everything will just go away and they will still not have an answer for me.  I am really concerned that after I get a transplant that this will come back.

Made it New York, but once again had a bad experience with United check in in Chicago ( no wonder why they have the lowest customer satisfaction of the carriers?), but United in New York was very helpful. Had two classes/ lectures so far and we do get our dogs on Wednesday after all. We have two students from Hong Kong here with an O&M instructor with their hopes of opening a facility in Hong Kong and change perceptions of service dogs there. Very interesting talks along with a conversation between one from Hong Kong and a southern man. :rofl;

Today is hurry up and wait day. Short class at 6:30 am, breakfast at 7:15 am, waiting on announcement about dog breed, color, sex at about 9:30 am, then wait some more for the dog to be brought to room after lunch. Then beging bonding process in room followed by next class, dinner with dog in tow, and finally last class for the day.

Hard part if trying to feel good, I am not doing well with three meals a day even tho portions were lowered for me. Fluid intake is fine though, but eating is not doing well with intestines.

Sorry you're still not feeling well.  Whitley sounds lovely, Labs are so cool.  I don't think bonding will be a problem.

Today the feeling was worse with breakfast and dinner. I only had fruit for lunch and had no problem then till I had a snack a few hours later of just cheese. I wish they would trust me and allow me to eat like I do at home. Their reason is so I will be strong and have energy, but all this food is having an opposite effect on me' I did post pictures at http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=10293.msg432695#msg432695 of the dog that is!

Whoa, wait, are you telling me that they are MAKING you eat? I don't understand. You're not a child, surely you can eat or not eat as you like. What do they do if you just refuse?

cariad they want me to eat for the saftey of the dog, to make sure I can do a route, and something I just forgot. They are attempting to figure a way to balance. Unfortunately last night was a bad night  where the nurse was called in. After my weird episode I was tired, got up at 5 am still feeling tired, butt still got going before all the other students. Made it through first class of the day, went to my room and fell right back to sleep. Woke up and almost missed breakfast when the called me on the intercom. Had to eat breakfast somewhat quick since they were abpout to load the vans to go to the city campus for training. Breakfast was not sitting well, then after training session I had an apple juice that did not sit well. Could not keep awake so they let me nap in the nurses/ business office for I don't know how many hours. This time missed lunch , but had apple juice again and a ensure drink to get meds down. Did not feel well after that either and fell asleep in my room once we got back for unknown amount of time. Feeling better now, but how long will that last remains to be seen. I did eat dinner tho.

I will avoid apple juice for awhile now and try to skip lunch and see how I do. Sunday I ordered a light breakfast.
