Ohhhh Baby It is Cold Outside - a big ole 6 degrees, 30 mph gusts of northwest wind - WHEW - pretty darn cold. I'm trying to figure out why on earth I even came to work because I'll have to eventually go back out into the cold.
In the meantime I'm a winning......................

Update on granddaughter with broken arm: She saw the ortho surgeon today and xrays show the bones are not lined up right. Surgery tomorrow morning to put the pins in. What a Christmas break this has been for her. In six months they will remove the pins - during summer vacation. Poor kid! The arm will heal faster with the pins, but I hate that she has to go through one more thing. She has been in a lot of pain the past nine days. Now she can start healing and feel better.
Slywalker- did you ever warm up today?

Morning IHD - random day off today - water main break in the city where I work. Unfortunately for the city workers they have to now repair things in below zero temps.
Paris - we are holding steady at -2 with a wind chill of only -12. Which is a bit of a warm up from yesterday in terms of wind chill. "they" say we are suppose to get balmy weather by tomorrow just in time for a snow storm. Time will tell.
On the bright side - I'm WINNING..................

Hey, Sly, I've been watching your weather. We got out just in time it seems!
Our daughter lives in an older farm home and when it is windy there is NO WAY to keep it warm even though they have replaced the windows and added insulation. Brrrrr!
A winning day for me, though!

I survived 5 days with my brother around. We took him to two breweries, two museums, and the local environmental center. He and my older son also spent many hours playing the wii together. We had a very successful Christmas dinner - it was actually my favorite part of the day. My brother arrived and we made crepes to order. Very mellow, absolutely no ceremony to it, our plates didn't even all match. We had banana/chocolate crepes for dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Easy (but renal hostile!)
My brother brought sad news: our cousin (whom I never see) has been diagnosed with stage 3 brain cancer. He's not even 30. I am worried for him and his parents - the cancer he has is characterized by a high mortality rate, and he is an only child.
Anyhow, I worried about my appearance for nothing. My brother even said to me at the end "I don't know how 8 or more hours of work can be so effortless, but a few hours around a couple of these [indicating my kids] and I'm wiped!" All the adults were exhausted, so it would have seemed suspicious if I hadn't been tired.
Congrats on the contract job, Aleta! I have no doubt you will wow them all.

Greetings IHD - New Year's Eve - WOOHOO
Cariad - I'm happy to hear that the brother's visit went okay. Whew.
Weather in the northeast finally moderated to above zero and no wind. This morning it was a balmy 16 degrees. My doggies were wicked happy about that - as was I.
Back to work - have a safe evening everyone.

Morning, or actually afternoon here. It's been busy around here this AM and I'm finally getting on the computer. Carl questioned whether I was suffering withdrawal symptoms!
Cariad! Wonderful that your brother's visit went so well.
Sly, I notice that there is snow forecast in the Berkshires for the next few days. And cold to boot. Well, cold for a southerner, but perhaps balmy for you!
Bean soup is on the stove. I'm making it a day early for tomorrow because is always tastes better the second day!
Trying to organize things around the house. Once school starts on Monday, that will be out the door again. Then back to subsistence living (amid accumulating clutter - ack!)
Nearly the new year! It will be better, it will be better, it will be better.
Cheers to everyone.

Happy New Year, friends!
My husband and I look at the new year differently. He doesn't like it and says he always worries about what is going to happen and it fills him with trepidation. I, on the other hand, look at it with hope and expectation. And I love to reflect on the year past. There were good things happening during this past year and next year may bring all kinds of great things. It is like a wrapped present. Anything could be inside. If it is anything like my Secret Santa gift, it will be a wonderful year full of lovely surprises.
Here is to a great year for all of us.
