I'm not sure why you want to keep it a secret.  Wouldn't it just be easier all round to live as you live and if he finds out so be it?  It's your life and your house - you should do what you like!

I am sure you have very good reasons why you left that life behind. Heck, I live 3000 miles from my family.  Hopefully your husband gets along with him and can take him out a lot to do guy stuff when you are not feeling well.

It is officially Christmas Eve!  :santahat; :rudolph; :rudolph; :rudolph; :rudolph; :rudolph; :rudolph; :rudolph; :rudolph; :rudolph; :rudolph; :rudolph; :rudolph;

Christmas Day in 40 mins for me!!  Father Christmas is coming soon!!! He starts in NZ of course. Have a lovely day everyone.  Won't be around for a few days - again.  Off for a bit of holiday and not sure if I'll have access again.  Now you know I'm not one to talk much about religion, but give a thought to the real reason for Christmas - and maybe some time for forgiveness and understanding - even of those people who do you you wrong - maybe even of yourself.

Cariad,

Can you take this brother into your confidence and ask him not to let the rest of your family know? Could he do that? It would make this week less stressful for you, and you know how stress wrecks havoc with the body!

I know there isn't an easy solution...

Jingle Bells, everyone.

All the hoopla about a major ice storm and then a major snow storm was nothing but b.s. All we have is rain! These weathermen should stop using one source for information, The Weather Channel and do things on their own.

I want my snow! :santahat; :snowman; :snowman; :christmastree;

Tell them Chris.  Don't let the weathermen screw you like that....

See Santa.  See Santa Run.  See Dick and Jane.  See Dick and Jane all run from the weatherman.

Rain is better than an ice storm.  They are dangerous.  Easy on the weathermen.  One of the dad's I camp with is the weatherman on one of the major Los Angeles T.V. stations and he is a really good guy.  I must admit it is a little easier forecasting the weather out here.  Hmmmm, sunny? 98% chance you'll be right!

What's past is prologue

« Reply #21363 on: December 24, 2009, 05:18:15 PM »

Wow, thanks everyone for the feedback on my brother's visit.

Hanify, I do get asked that question a lot - why not just tell them. It's difficult to fully capture family dynamics, but my father is an angry, controlling type with a history of physically and verbally abusing his kids, and my mother just accepts it. My parents would likely move out here if they found out what was going on, and weasel their way into the hospital. My father is not the most mentally balanced sort, and thinks nothing of screaming and insulting me in front of my children. The last run-in I had with him, we were on holiday, had a disagreement, and before I knew what was happening he shouted for me to leave (his hotel room) and take 'your g-damn child with you'. That child had just turned 3. But I love the spirit of what you wrote, that I live here and shouldn't waste a lot of energy trying to come up with excuses for doing as I please.  :2thumbsup;

Aleta, I have considered telling him, since we will apparently now be living within a few hours of each other. I'll see how it goes and try to get a feel for whether he would be up for a big secret or not. He is a born peacemaker, and does not like to take sides.  :thx;

Great suggestion, Marc! Both my husband and brother are very easygoing, social types, so they will do fine entertaining each other.  :thx;

Slywalker, thank you for the good wishes! I trust all will work out some how....  :)

I'm off for at least a day or two. Happy Christmas to all - five hours to  :santahat; for us. Enjoy, everyone!  :grouphug;  :christmastree;

Good morning and a very happy holiday to everyone!  :christmastree;

Boy did I learn MY lesson! Never, ever tell a 6 year old that she can wake you up as soon as she wakes up on Christmas morning!

The wake-up call came at 4:43 AM!!  :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;

I begeed for a 30 minute reprieve and thankfully received it!

After opening presents and a wonderful breakfast of waffles, we drove out to the site where my daughter and her husband are building their new school building. Soooo thrilling.

I hope everyone out there is having as wonderful a day as I am. AND I get to make scalloped oysters to take to dinner tonight.  :2thumbsup;

Love and peace to everyone as I prepare to do Carl's dialysis for today.
