where in Mass? The Berkshires, where our daughter lives.

I'm in a real mental conflict. Our first tx center called and said that they are willing to do a nuclear imaging test on y kidneys that will pinpoint the functioning of each kidney independently. Do I even go in for that? They have been so pissy with us for the past couple of years. It is definitely more convenient for us to do the tx there....

Sigh. Too much to think about.

Have set a date for the nuclear imaging. October 21. This way I will know exactly how well my kidneys are doing and whether I have two good ones or only one. Hmm. I guess I would have to hang on to it if only one is any good!

Still keeping the other tx center open as an option, though.

I don't really understand.  If you only have one good kidney then who sould take care of your husband while he's recouperating and what if something happened to your other kidney.  Would be be able to care for each other through all that or do you have other family members to relay on...  Don't mean to be negative, just trying to understand.

Dan,
It will definitely be a stretch for both of us to be out of work for any amount of time, but we have soooo many folks willing and even eager to help.

One of the others who came forward to donate (but was denied by the tx center) wants to come take care of us. Others want to help, too. My brother who lives nearby cannot help because he has an invalid wife. My dad is too old (and in and out of the hospital). Our only daughter lives too far away, so we will be relying on friends.

But for some odd reason, we have many of those, who think we are worth their time and effort.  :rofl;

Aleta,
Friends will be a God-send for you and Carl.  And, if you two are like Marvin and me, Carl will be "up and going" before you are.  I guess it was because of the difference in the incisions (mine was half-way around the stomach, and Marvin's was small and near the very bottom of his abdomen) and the difference in the surgeries (mine was dig through her body to get to the kidney, and Marvin's was just tuck it in and hook it up), but I was soooo sore, and Marvin was "fine" the next day.  My parents stayed with us for a week, but we could have managed okay by ourselves (but try to tell the parents that!).  When Mom and Daddy went home (2 hours away) for the week-end, my mom said, "Who will take care you two while I'm gone?" and Marvin said, "I got it."  And, he did.  It really took me about another week to be 95% back together, but Marvin ... he was ready to go the day after his surgery.  Mom and Daddy came back for another week after the week-end they went home, but we were all getting pretty bored that second week.

You two will be fine.  If you've managed to survive it all this far (especially the home hemo part), the transplant will be a piece of cake!  You'll be surprised at how strong you are!  I'm excited for you.

Marsha, you are MY hero!  :clap;

I still worry about whether the test will come out all right. If not, well, there is no reason to pursue the transplant at the other center. But the other one specializes in non-steroid post-tx care and we would prefer that. BUT it is 2 hours away instead of 10 minutes.  :thumbdown;

It is going to be a hard decision if I pass this test.

Aleta, if they been "pissy" for that amount of time and you do not feel right about them now, maybe it's time to go somewhere else for another opinion beccause of what you might fel about their after care.

Dan, I still do not feel my usual self and arguing with nurse about medications given that caused problems. Have to try to get kidney function back up if that is possible, gt a call today about labs showing kidney function has gone down and suppose to push fluids, but it's a big drop compared to what it has been. Will take another test, maybe a fluke.

Chris, please get better soon. This is just not what I want to hear.

And yes, we are very conflicted now about whether to just move to another center or not. If this test shows that I only have one good kidney, the subject is closed. BUT, if it shows that I'm good to go, we will have to make a hard decision.

Marc, I'm so glad I stayed up late last night. You are so very sweet to visit Kitkatz like that. I laughed about the Davita tech! So funny.

Have a wonderful weekend. My dad gets out of the hospital today. I think I have our huge supply snafu fixed. My vacation supplies were NOT delivered yesterday as they were supposed to and will not arrive until after we leave.  :banghead;

My center is so helpful, though. They'll get it worked out to have them shipped to our daughter's.

Update on my son's football team.  They won again today.  Their record is now 6-1.  They lost 1 game 8-10.  They have scored a total of 158 points in the 7 games.  Together their opponents have scored a total of 24 points against them in the 7 games.  They have 1 more regular season game left and then it looks like the playoffs.
