Epoman,

Is there anyway to get a total for all of the years of dialysis experience represented here?  I would think that would be a wonderful statistic to be able to pass on to everyone who checks out this site.  Maybe set up something like a poll?  Or maybe have someone monitor a tread and add all of the years up?  Please delete or modify this thread however you need to, in order to get the info.

I know you're training on NxStage right now so maybe one of the other computer savvy people here could pick up on this?

Anyone else interested or curious?

Seven years and 9 months on dialysis.  There is a statistic for you!

ya it should be easy to do. But a poll is more like multiple choice in forums and is not as specific.

Maybe just everyone posting here would do :P

Who knows what Epoman could come up with when he sees all the stats ;)

Mine is in my sig ;)

2 months on Baxter CAPD (1990)
1 transplant (April 11th 1990 - Nov 2001)
4 yrs Fresenius PD (2001-2005) CAPD & CCPD
1 yr in-clinic HD (July 2005 - Present)

Even though I guess I only have 5 years of dialysis experience (only because my first time around I got a transplant after only 2 months) I have been dealing with my health since 1982 when they first learned what was wrong with me even though I was sick since 1973!

Maybe we should have two polls  -  one for the time we´ve been sick and the other one for the time on dialysis.

I've been dealing with kidney failure for 20 years, but I've only spend 2 birthdays on dialysis.  July 17, 1987 and July 17, 2006 (25 and 45).  The other ones were with a transplant.   :(

5 years dialysis
16 years transplant
5 years dialysis again.
5th year of 2nd transplant and going strong for more years to add on.

this total includes peritoneal, clinic hemo and home hemo, used a drake Wilcox and I had to rebuild the kidney myself once a week (if lucky) I used it 3 times before I had to rebuild.

I was hesitating since my time will not increase the years.  I started dialysis the end of Sept last year, but as Joe Paul said, I was sick as a dog for months and months before I knew what was happening to me.

From birth to six the doctors missed that I had reflux

4 years trying to save the kidney
77 started on haemo age ten
80 stared on CAPD
81 Had Transplant
88 stared on CAPD
00 started on Haemo.

Total of 23 years on dialysis. 7 years with transplant. 10 years of kidney infections and operation to try to save the kidney.

Thats 34 years with know kidney failure. 6 years of unknown kidney failure a doctors mistake. Which if she had have realized I would have not have gone through all that I have, because the one kidney would have been saved. If the reflux would have been treated earlier.

From birth to the age of 9 doctors missed that I had reflux
(mainly because they would treat kidney infections and THEN run the tests and find nothing ..)

7 years of trying to hold of inevidable renal failure
2 months of CAPD
11 years (1990 - 2001) of successful transplant from a cadaver (died in a motorcycle accident - I don't know him)
2001 failed transplant and started CAPD and then got trained a few months later to do at home nocturnal CCPD
2005 (june/July) I got severe Peritonitis and was hospitalized for 6 weeks (4 weeks and then 2 weeks home and 2 weeks back in again)

They had to take out the PD catheter and put in the permcath to my heart. I didn't even know. It was done as an emergency surgery I was doing so badly.

July 2005 I started in clinic Hemo

and I have been on it ever since (will be a whole year on the 23rd).

So even though I only have 5 years on dialysis and 11 years transplant .. I have been going through this most of my life now.

If they found the reflux when I was a baby I would have most likely still have had both my original kidneys today I was told.
