I'm here.. for us.

« on: May 03, 2008, 03:33:15 AM »

I've not been here for a bit.  Okarol.. thank you for checking up on me.

So.. where have I been?  Work has been rough,  son's nite school 4 x's a week plus his regular school, plus his virutal school, plus his scouting (did his eagle project last weekend), Plus his getting his book together on the eagle project.  My suddenly becoming the Pres of our Ladies Auxiliary.... :urcrazy;
Keith will be down May 13th till June 3rd.  Right after he will be moving down after he finishes packing.  :guitar:

Son now wants to move in with me/us.  :o
 Son and Keith met online on yahoo chat and cam.

Now.. I live presently in a one bedroom apt.  which would have been fine but with my boy wanting to move in with us.. I need a bigger place. :banghead;

The economy is sooooo extremely sucky that jumping from a 1 BR to a 2 BR about made me keel over pricewise.  So I'm looking at the next county north of me.

This month and the month of June will be a massive blur.  Graduation, son's b-day, his Eagle Ceremony, Keith coming down for a few weeks, I have to find a place to go at the begining of June.. Fly up and drive down with my cowboy and his things.. Move my son in too and then schedule our schedules.

Of course if all that wasnt enough.. I can't have pets here.. so what do I do? >:D
At work (I work at the PO).. they know I'm the animal person..so they call me and tell me that one of the training vehicles have a bunch of kittens in the engine and they are wild and claw at everyone..what can I do?
I roll my eyes.. go out there armed with an emtpy xerox box and leather gloves.  When I get there everyone had scattered (go figure!).. I took along one of our mechanics to keep Ma Cat at bay and not rip my face apart (or other delicate needed areas!)..I peek into the engine and there are 5..little bitty maybe 4 week old kittens..the bluish haze still over their eyes.  Nasty mean little things too spitting and hissing and those tiny little razor sharp nails.
In we go grabbing them and boxing them quickly.   :boxing;

So.. I drive over to the cat rescue place.. no problem I'm told (they are used to me brining in kittens from work)  I cant trap the momma cats in the area cause the workers there will fry me for being cruel! (Cruel is letting them breed like that!)..So as I pick them up and hand them to her..I hold back one.
Two were tiger striped.. two were jet black (and the devil re-incarnate in meaness) and one was middle of the road.. black.. white splash on his nose, tips of his paws and belly.  I kept him.  I had already spoken to Keith and it was OK to keep the little heathen fur ball. :clap;

So I got him home.. bathed him (yes I survived)..and long story short.. he slept in his blankie all nite long till 5AM.. where he decided it was time to MEOW very loudly..I get up.. deal with food and such.. and put him back on the blankie.. up on the sofa.. all curled and nuzzled and cave like..the furball (who is now named Dante)..decides to check out the bowels of the pull out sleeper sofa.. I got him out once...as I write this.. he's back in there!!!! :Kit n Stik;

Now to hide him from the landlord for a month till I find a place and move.

Keith is doing very well, my son is a walking zombie with all he has to do (but fell in love with the furball) and me.. hehehe..none of this is a rant at all.. nope.. not one moment of it.
I'm happier than I have been in a long long time, got my guy moving in with me, my son too that really likes Keith.. a kitten that will make me roll my eyes and laugh.. and a new life ahead full of ups and downs, laughter and tears.. and I would not want it any other way.   :bandance;

Life is good and love shows you the way to do things.
Yep.. I've been smiling for weeks now looking forward to our lives together.

Hi all..
Uncle Fester.. OMG.. i wish i had thought of that one.
Dante does fit him though.. he's all settled in and now he's not afraid of me anymore. :clap;
Woke up to the little rat sleeping on MY pillow right up against me.  Misses his mommy I'm sure.
He's still got those blue hazy eyes.. but oh my gosh he's running and skidding all over the tile floor now.

Today he saw his shadow on the wall and started batting at it.  :boxing; I'm glad he's getting settled in nicely.

Now for the humans..
Son is just setting rules.. he's a good boy.. he will stick to the rules..or!!!  :Kit n Stik;

But Keith.. I think he will be like the kitty..just all over the place at first till he settles
in and snuggles up at nite.. :shy;

Wont that be funny..
Kitty Dante on one side..
Keith on the other...(just hope he watches out for them sharp little razor nails   :rofl;) >:D

Great to hear that you are so happy and things are going well - if a little hectic!!!!!!  Long may it last. Dante sounds like fun  :rofl;

Keith's moving in eh? - oh yes  :yahoo; I may still get to wear that boa (and NO I will not be wearing just a boa ..... you would NOT want to see me in just a boa believe me  :rofl;).

Wishing you both a lifetime of love that will overcome anything. xx

Mysty, you sound like my kind of person!  I would most likely be the one called upon to rescue kittens, and would also be tempted to take one home with me.  I agree with you as well that it is cruel to let feral cats breed uncontrolled.  Did you ever hear of a program called trap/neuter/release?  It is advocated by several animal organizations including the Humane Society of the United States.  In this type of program, feral cats are humanely trapped, brought in to be neutered and then released back into their original territory.  Since adult feral cats cannot generally be socialized, the goal is to allow the cats to live out their lives humanely in their familiar environments and without breeding so that the cycle is eventually broken.

A cat started staying across the street and had kittens and the humane society go
them and neutered them and brought them back out.  Unfortunately the mother they did not
get in time and she had a littyer of 6 and they they got her fixed.  So lots of kittens around
here looking for homes. I took in 2 rescue kittens a while back.

I have four cats and all were rescues. They rule the house now. The oldest is 10 and the youngest is 3 and our affection is mutual.

Yes I am that kind of person.. but i draw the line on skunks and possums!...
We have the cat rescue here in my little bitty town..they spay/neuter and release.
I know the ladies well and help when i can picking up huge bags of cat food when i can, donating items for garage sales, my daughter and son both have helped with adoption days.. I've even been at pet supermarket helping them out..

At first the city was skeptical.. but after a few years they saw the decline in kitten population.  So.. when at work they call, I usually grab them.  This time.. I got hooked on the little heathen.

I am having a heck of a time getting him litter trained.. he still just lets go wherever he is.  Too young to figure it out I guess.. No older cat to imitate (I'm not squatiing over the box either).  I'm really at my wits ends trying to figure out how to potty train him.. I adore him.. but I cant have him relieving himself just anywhere.

Any ideas?  I'm all ears!

love your idea twirl.. soon as he can eat solid kitty food I will do just that!

I couldnt keep more than the one.. I'm not allowed pets here where i rent..but the one i figure i can sort of hide till i move in june.. what are they gonna do toss me out with less than a month to go?

I need help with the litter box situation.. Keith flys down tuesday the 13th.. and I want to get Dante straightened out quick..

I have always found it best to confine kittens to a small area at first so they don't "forget" where the litter box is.  Try putting him in a bathroom (small area, all hard, smooth surfaces) with just a litter box in there (close the toilet lid so he doesn't fall in).  Of course, this willl be easier if you have two bathrooms, but even if not might be worth a try.  I would try to leave him in there all night, if possible.  Sometimes with feral kittens, I've taken their little paws and made them "dig" in the sand, just to try to give them the idea.  Not sure if it helped, but it made me feel like I was doing something. :)  Supposedly they don't need to imitate another cat, and this has been my experience; I've had some pretty young feral kitties and they all have figured it out.  Good luck with your little guy; he sure is CUTE!
