We had a party line. That meant more than one neighbor shared the same phone line and could listen in. We also had three TV stations. An NBC, CBS and PBS.

We played outside as children, it would be nice if kids today could do the same. We'd be out for hours on end - my sister, me, our dalmatian, a bike and a skateboard. I don't think our parents knew exactly where we were half the time, but they DID know we were within the vicinity of the block that our house was on (we wouldn't dare sneak away - never even occurred to us actually).

So true, the baby boomers will be the last generation to know that freedom, what caused everyone after us to have to suffer. Pick any thing a child/teenager wants or needs to do and someone has legislated a law... Boxman

We used the run the hills behind and in front of our house in Escondido.  We lived about a mile under the Bear rock out there. Right above the country Club golf course.  When Mom wanted us she would send the dog out for us.

I think she is fine. She's getting straight "A's". If she turns out to be like Britney Spears or Lindsey Lohan I will be sure to discuss the traumatic events of her youth with Dr. Phil while we are on Oprah.

Rob and I were driving home from dinner with our son tonight.  He was planning on going outside when we got home to play.  I said I remember when that's all we did was play outside, we never went in the house unless we had to.  I also said the internet wasn't around back then and he was shocked.  I said we didn't have these elaborate video game systems either, Atari was just coming out when I was 12 or so.  He wondered what we did.  I said we played outside in the summer and played games, read or watched a little bit of tv in the winter.  I said we only had 1 tv and again he was shocked.  I told him we didn't have to worry about strangers as much, everybody looked out for each other.  He thought for a bit and then said he wished it was like that now.  I said you have no idea how much I wsh that too!

that type of swim suit was once described to me as a "suitless bathing strap" but we were originally talking about summer shoes held on the foot with a piece that went between the toes. but then i always called them "flip flops"
