Admin for IHateDialysis 2008 - 2014, retired.
Jenna is our daughter, bad bladder damaged her kidneys.
Was on in-center hemodialysis 2003-2007.
7 yr transplant lost due to rejection.
She did PD Sept. 2013 - July 2017
Found a swap living donor using social media, friends, family.
New kidney in a paired donation swap July 26, 2017.

while this might have been funny to me given the housing market-now that my husband needs a kidney- it isn't so funny. Maybe I am just losing my sense of humor

No. I felt the same way. I don't think people realize the impact of giving/receiving a kidney - it's just become a cliche.

As a kid my mother used to say "I'd give my eyeteeth for....whatever",  and we've all heard that something can cost "an arm and a leg".  I dunno maybe we can wish/hope that if giving up a kidney becomes associated with people's desperation to do or to get something then society at large will start to grasp how desperate we feel to receive one.  I can understand that a person might hesitate to be a living donor but the reluctance to part with usable organs once we're dead is totally beyond me.
OK so would it be coercion if a CKD person made a house purchase conditional on the throwing in of a kidney?  Just wondering.

Pyelonephritis (began at 8 mos old)
Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges
