If something was to happen to my gf's kidney and she needed a new transplant in the future, would I be able to give her one of mine, even though we have different blood types? That's just something I've thought about for awhile.

you  can  transplant  on  non matching  blood  types,it's  in  its  infancy  so  you'd have  to  speak  to  the  professionals,don't know  much about  it,but  its been  done  in  australia  a  few  times

Phillip,

You can also do a 'paired exchange' where you donate to someone who matches you and their relative or friend, matching your girlfriend, donates to her.

Also depends on what the different blood types are.  I am B and can get from B or O and possibly a subgroup of A.  AB can get from everyone.  What type are you and what is she?

Pyelonephritis (began at 8 mos old)
Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges
