Heph's Little Lady hasn't posted since July.  So does this mean we'll never get an answer to the riddle.  I HATE that because now I'll sit around all day trying to figure the darn thing out.  And I'm terrible at riddles.  :banghead;

HLL - Please come back and tell us the answer!!!

General consensus seems to be that it was B since C died of thirst, not poison.

okarol, I see your logic, but...did B really "kill" C?  Just by poking a hole in the water sack, C didn't die.  C died because of a lack of water; if B had consumed all of the water himself (assuming that he didn't know it had been poisoned), and C had died of thirst, would B still be considered a suspect?  Also, if B had known that A poisoned the water, he could have let C drink it and die.  Assuming B wanted C dead, this would have been the perfect crime.  But it didn't happen that way, did it?

If C had consumed the water before B poked a hole in the sack, C would have died from the poison.  So...did B first save C's life by poking a hole in the water sack?  Which means, is A the ultimate killer because A poisoned the water in the first place?  Nope, I wouldn't buy that.  But, I don't buy that B killed C either.

My vote...there is no murderer.  C died of natural causes....but, then, on the other hand, where is Heph's Little Lady?  Is she on "the lamb"?  Does she know more about this riddle than she's telling?  (JUST KIDDING HERE, HLL -- play along with me  :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;).   If Heph's Little Lady shows back up with desert sand in her shoes, we'll know.  We'll know.   :rofl; :rofl;

I say there is no answer BUT if I had to choose, look at how its written out  (A, B a C) a is closer to C than B, so a had to do it  :rofl;

Matlock could figure it out, too -- that is, if it ever goes to trial.

B was the direct murderer.  A attempted murder, but he did not succeed since the poison ran out.

It had to be B because he had intent and did the dirty deed, and A just put poison in the water, C did not die of poison, but of thirst.  Poor guy.

I agree with bajanne and Kitkatz, let's see if this makes any sense:
A and B hated C and decided to kill him.
A poisoned the water in C's sack.
B caused C's water to leak from the sack.
C died of THIRST, not POISONED.
In a courtroom A and B should go to jail: B for C's murder, and A for attempting to kill C.
But since A and B didn't have any water, maybe they died too.
And without any witnesses, is there a case??
I say we kill the guy that wrote this stupid riddle.
