I work at a Davita in southern CA, my boss used to be a social worker, my nurse has 20+ years of experience(as well as only one kidney), I work with the most wonderful and caring technicians, even our re-use is awsome! Yea I'm kinda bragging, I just hated my old clinic and even wanted to quit. I'm so glad I did'nt because I love this new palce, our patients are wonderful too. I've read all the negative people post about Davita and although I agree with 99.9% of them I truly believe my clinic is different! I would send my loved one there in a heart beat!

My husband is getting ready to start and I'm trying to talk him into touring a Davita clinic that is close to our house, I hope someone who cares like you is there to make things easier for him.

Pardon my ignorance but what is "re-use"?

Re-use is the practice utilized in some dialysis clinics of cleaning and disinfecting dialyzers after each use so that they can be used again multiple times.

I found some very good information on the subject here:

I have been with Davita since I started dialysis.....I have not had any problems. No re-use, no paper on chairs but they do have ice. Hmmmmm like my shirt says...I'm just here for the FREE ICE!  :yahoo;

What 1K is in regards to is the strength of the dialysate "juice" that is used in regards to your potassium (K) level.

The standard is 2K for people with normal K levels
If your K is high (usually 5.5 or higher), then you will be placed on the 1K
If your K is low, then you would be placed on a 3K

I was normally on the 1K in center, because I can't stay away from my spuds >:D

Now that I'm on NxStage, 1K is my only option, so I don't have to worry about my K levels anymore.  They are in the 4 range.

I don`t know,,,, the practice of re- use somehow rubs against the grain. The chances of infection must multiply every time you use them. All it takes is one careless nurse/tech !!!!
