A friend sent me an email and it had this quote in it:

God determines who walks into your life... it's up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go.

That's how I feel about IHD -- I refuse to let my IHD friends and "family" go!

I have been searching for a site like this!!  I can't believe it's been out there this whole time.  When my kidney failure was discovered a year ago and I started on hemodialysis, I had so many questions.  Many medical questions were answered by my nephrologist - LOVE HIM!  However, I had so many basic, everyday questions, that he simply couldn't answer and referred me to my nurse at the dialysis clinic.  For instance, I had a lot of questions about the diet - people kept listing off what I couldn't have, I wanted a good list of what I COULD have.  When I questioned the nurse as to why wheat bread was not recommended, she said - why wouldn't wheat bread be recommended?  Wheat is so much healthier than white bread.  So, I asked when I could speak with the Nutritionist, and I was repeatedly told she'd be around soon.  I didn't see a nutritionist until after I'd been on hemodialysis for 2 months.  By then, I pretty much found out what I needed to know through google.  It was a struggle.  I wanted to eat right, just didn't know what was right and how to make the choices.  I wish I would have found this site then.  So much help from people just like me!!  I am going to take one these poster to my old clinic and my new clinic, in hopes of helping new patients find this site sooner.

Thanks for welcoming me to your site.  I look forward to helping others and getting help from those that understand completely what I'm going through.

So glad you found us now. Print off the posters and post them, who knows there may be someone like yourself with no where else to turn with questions. Thanks for thinking of posting them.  I like you already... :)

I went for my monthly visit today (first month on NxStage), and gave my nephrologist and nurse manager a copy of the poster for IHD.  I told them how much I'm enjoying the website so far, and how much it would have helped me in the beginning.  My nephrologist is making copies of the poster to handout to the patients!!
