Okay, Marvin and I want to come...but, we need more info.  Tell me about the rates for rooms.  When you have a reunion like this, what other costs are involved (food obviously -- how are the meal prices up there? ... anything else?).  We'll have to check into the cost of flights -- too far to drive, and a lot will depend on how much it costs and if we can save up enough between now and then.

I can tell you that the rooms will be around $114.00 highest plus taxes. As low as $99.00 plus taxes. I have a motel already in mind but I have not sent in the contract yet because I will have to pay for up to 8 rooms if they are not used. I can't afford that but I think we will fill them. I have a block on 15 rooms. I can not give you the information yet until the contract goes through and then I will post the location. It is in Tinley Park IL. All the rooms in Chicago were high like $170.00/ night. Tinley park is 20 miles from the main Chicago Post Office.

Sluff, which hotel are we staying at? I've been doing some checking,  and the Country Inn (just opened last year!) looked nice. Rates are a bit expensive though, but they do handle groups, which is in their favor!

Had you already picked one out? Ran, my fiancee plans to come...he's my 'chauffeur' as he calls himself!
He already has the route mapped out!

We're planning on coming up Friday and staying through til Sunday morning!

I'm so disappointed...I was so looking forward to this, and Chicago is a short 4 hour drive for me!!! However, Jim and I are already committed to our annual canoeing weekend that same weekend (and we are the organizers of this event!!!)

Does this mean this event will always be the first weekend in August?

No it just happened to work out that way. It could be different every year, so could the location. Too bad you can't make it, I hope you don't find yourself up a creek with out a paddle.. :rofl;

If it is at all possible, I would like to go too. I'm in Indianapolis, so it's not that far.

If anyone has any unique ideas about where we can go or what we can do while in the Chicagoland area send Paris a PM. She has graciously offered to help the old young Sluffster out with the plans.

Thanks Paris.

I don't know if my husband and I will be able to make it. The cost of the hotel might be the deal breaker. We are having severe financial problems right now. Chicago is so close tho!  :(

I should be able to make it. It is not far from my house, right of the interstate. I'll have to look up where the hotel is at, can't remember Spring Creek, bu I will find it. Any ideas what you want to see in Chicago? Sears Tower Observatory is about $30 (been 6 years since last visit), there is Grant Park wit the giant chrome jelly bean, Navy Pier with a big Ferris Wheel that lights up at night, of course Michigane Ave (Mag Mile, the main drag of shopping for women in Chicago..lol), Lincoln Park Zoo, the various museums, Shedd Aquarium, Plantetarium, ect. There is a commuter train that runs to Chicago and on weekends it is about $5 for ticket that last thru the weekend that allows you to have a round trip. I will have to get a train schedule when I go to Chicago in June or look online for the details.

The "Cloud Gate" sculpture in Millennium Park... a huge mirrored marvel... affectionately known as "The Bean" because of it's kidney shape... it draws everyone to it so they can see themselves reflected with an incredible view of Chicago's skyline all around them.
