May 13, 2008 - Kidney Transplant from a deceased donor

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.

 :) dont worry about the traffic, im just bitter cause i live in the suburbs. montreal is really nice, i've lived here all my life so i figure i need a change of scenery. possibly vancouver, less snow. or maybe ottawa, gorgeous city.

Jill- Yeah I know the weather is so crazy in February. It was practically a nice Spring Day here a lil bit ago then the next day it was a blizzard! I cannot wait until Spring.

Oakwood, Ohio. it's a suburb of Dayton, home of the Wright brothers. Orville and Wilbur Wright's house is here in Oakwood. It's absolutely beautiful! We're about 50 miles north of Cincinnati and 70 miles SW of Columbus.

Eye impairments and blindness in one eye began in 95, major one during visit to the Indy 500 race of that year
   -glaucoma and surgery for that
     -cataract surgery twice on same eye (2000 - 2002). another one growing in good eye
     - vitrectomy in good eye post tx November 2003, totally blind for 4 months due to complications with meds and infection

Diagnosed with ESRD June 29, 1999
1st Dialysis - July 4, 1999
Last Dialysis - December 2, 2000

Kidney and Pancreas Transplant - December 3, 2000

Cataract Surgery on good eye - June 24, 2009
Knee Surgery 2010

I know how you feel. I grew up in farm country in Maryland. We went sledding among the cows in the field next to my house. My high school was surrounded by corn on 3 sides. Once, during Ag Day, a pig got loose in the school. Oh yeah, and the kids who were in Future Farmers Of America actually drove tractors to school on Ag Day!

Nixa, Mo   About 9 Miles south of Springfield.   And no we didn't get flooded a few days ago at our house, but it was bad all around.  Specially South and East.

I now live in Phoenix Arizona, but I grew up on a farm in the Yakima River Valley, A small town called Benton City, Washington.  Most of my family lives southwest of Salt LaKe City in Utah

Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges
