Len's UPDATED February Clinic YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
«

We haven't been home too long, but I wanted to update about Len's transplant appointment today. Creatinine 0.08, BUN 14, Albumin 4.3, Calcium 10.4, Sodium 138, Glucose 101, Potassium 4.7, Phosphate 3.7. The good news (there's 2) we don't have to travel to DC for 3 months and they stopped the Bactrim. His coordinator has asked for a magnesium test to see if he can drop those also. He weight 143 this morning. He must continue the low residue, low fiber diet but he is gaining and all I want is for him to feel good. I have been up since 4:30 this morning so I am very happy we have left over pot roast for dinner.
Thanks for all your prayers, they mean so much. I'll sleep like a log tonight. By the way, it was snowing pretty good in DC when we left at 1pm, but the further south we got the less it was snowing. Thank God for that. Everyone, have a nice evening.

Kathy --
This made my day! Heck, this made my whole week! I'm soooooooo happy for both of you. I have prayed and prayed that things would turn around for Len and he would get to walk on the "easy" (if there is such a thing with ESRD) path. Apparently, I've been good enough lately for God to hear my prayers.
Enjoy this wonderful news -- you and Len both deserve it! If I were near you, I'd have to give you a hug. Hope this will do...
here's one for Len ...
Oh, what the heck, let's all get in on it...
I'm absolutely tickled!

You both deserve good news. I am so glad things are heading the right direction. Now we need to put some meat on his bones! Aren't leftovers the best? I hope you are both getting some rest.

The transplant coordinator called about 5:30 this evening and said the transplant surgeon wanted to change some of Len's medications. He now only takes 1 (1mg) prograf a day and he upped the Imuran to 50 mg, 1 time a day, stopped the bactrim and also the magnesium. Len is so happy about the bactrim (he thinks it upsets his stomach), reducing the prograf he is hoping his hair might start growing back and so far the Imuran hasn't seemed to bother him, and he says he won't be sorry to see those horse pills (magnesium) gone. The coordinator did say that they want to see Len in April instead of May because they are changing things around. I guess I might as well get use to these changes, they told us to expect it for at least a year. But we are happy. Have a good weekend.

Great news!!! That's actually quite a low dose of Imuran for a grown man. I took that with my first transplant, and was on 50 mg/day and 5 mg/day of prednisone. I started those doses when I was about to turn 8 and continued them until I was nearly 25. Glad to hear it's being easy on his stomach and he's feeling like eating, if only just a little bit.

w&w -- that's great news. Marvin was on prograf (3 mg) and Cellcept when he had his transplant, and these two worked great for him. I'm hoping the prograf and Imuran will be the right combo for Len. And, hey, if they want see him again in April (instead of May), I'd say that's a good thing. They're keeping on top of things, so that's a positive. You can never watch those transplant recipients too much. What a great way to start the week-end! Love to Len...

Another update. I took Len to our GP this afternoon for follow-up appointment. His labs are great, BUN 10, creatinine 0.08, and EVERYTHING is in the normal range, except his sugar, WTF
, Len has never had problems with his sugar (unlike me), his was 136 fasting and the doc wasn't too happy about it. The only thing that has changed is they added Imuran. I'm going to go do some reading and see if that medication affects sugar level. They also scheduled him for next Wednesday to have a sonogram done of his groin area. Doctor thinks it's scar tissue but wants to be sure. He is very pleased with Len's progress. He weighted 150 pounds, hasn't weight that since March 2001 was we are headed in the right direction (even with this crazy diet that he's on). Take care and thanks for listening to me again.
I just went and did some reading and it seems that the Prograf is the problem with the sugar. I'll send and call transplant center on Monday and see what they want to do next. Are we having fun yet?
