Rob showing off his pot of gold!

« on: January 30, 2008, 04:13:01 PM »

We are all so distruaght right now.  My poor yellow lab Skye is gone.

Rob noticed that she just wasn't acting herself today, she had a hard time breathing, wouldn't eat some rice he made her and went to lie down in Luke's crate (she HATES crates).  Thank God he was home today, I had to head into the office, so she would have been home by herself not feeling well.

They took bloodwork and did some xrays.  She had full fledged kidney failure and had a ton of protein loss.  We never knew this.  She had her yearly last year but didn't have blood work done.  She was losing a ton of weight though, we thought it was due to her hip displaysia and just feeling tired.  Rob had to carry her out of the house and out of the truck.  Thankfully I was able to leave work and see her.

This is the worst feeling I have ever felt....my heart feels like it has been broken.  We picked up our son so he could say good-bye to her.  It was a tough decision to make, but we are glad we did.  He feels better that he got to give her tons of hugs and kisses.  We are sitting her knowing that we did the best thing for her, but it just hurts so much.  She was my buddy during the day, my little co-worker.  At night she was Rob's dialysis buddy.  Poor Luke, he knows she isn't here and has cried out a couple of times.

I was there with her as she left this earth.  I kissed my special spot on her nose, nuzzled her neck and said good-night sweetie.  None of us said good-bye, we said see you later.  We know she is in a better place and not suffering, it just hurts so much.

It is so hard to do this but they depend on you to make the proper decision, and it sounds that you did. You will meet again.  :grouphug;

So sorry to read this!
We also had to go thru this, just this past Monday.
Our little Sambucca also had kidney failure, she had
been diagnosed about 1 yr ago.  She managed to
do pretty well on the K/D dog food, but the end of
last week I saw bad signs.  Her back legs were much
worse, and her life quality was fading.
She is in heaven with your Sky, now, and all the sweet
pets of so many loving people.
Try to take comfort in that thought.  It is what is helping
me

I cried, it hurts so much to let them go even though it's the right thing to do for them.

I've gone through this as well, putting our goldie to sleep. She was on my lap,we were in the
backyard, the vet had agreed to come out to do it there.  It's a bittersweet moment. Yes, it
was the right thing to do to have your son say goodbye.

It's gonna hurt. It'll seem as if it never goes away, but one day you'll remember Skye, and you'll
smile, remember special moments.

Skye is safe now. And waiting for you. I fiirmly believe that. :grouphug;
