I do PD and have a question. I weigh myself every day and am always around 130 give/and take few pounds. I wen to the unit last week and they weighted me in at  143. I had done an exchange at 8 that morning so there is no way i could have gained 10 pounds in the 3 hours in between my exchanges. U think that there is something wrong with their scale cause when i got home i weighed again and it was my normal wight of 133 like it was when i did it in the morning. Second question i forget what the numbers of the bags mean in that i do all 1.5 bags but they gave me a 2.5 bag at the clinic. So the higher the dextrose number the less that comes off? or am i off on that. Does this make sense. Thanks for your help.

The higher the concentration of dextrose in the bags, the more fluid gets removed.  Using 1.5 bags is the best for your peritoneum and removes the least fluid. The 2.5 will pull off more fluid.   My take on the weight difference is that they are different scales and not callibrated the same. Was the one at the clinic zeroed before you were weighed?

I wouldnt worry about the weight thing , it happens to me all the time , i gain 3/4 kgs just travelling to the hospital ..lol. Im always being told its my scales that are wrong. Best thing to do is still use yours as a guide and only worry if 'YOUR' scales tell you that you have put on a few kilos in a day!.

:thx; Big sigh of relief. Thank you and that's what i thought too - that if MYscale said something different to be worried. I figured i was worring over nothing but figured i'd ask. They kept saying tht my scale was wrong and i know that it is right. Obiously there is no way i could gain 10 pounds betweeen my 8 am exhange and my 12 pm there. thank again

That happens to me too, miraculously I always gain at least 5, if not 10 pounds between the drive from my house to the clinic!!

If YOU have been keeping track, and know that you are within your dry weight, I would not worry about their scales! YOU know
when you have excess fluid.  As long as you get it of right away, there should be no problem.

Claudia, I also would not worry, unless you're that different on one scale. As for the different numbers on the bags, 1.5 means that the bag is 1.5% dextrose solution and will pull off less fluid than a 2.5% or 4.25% bag. I have never been told that one is easier on the peritoneum than others, and there seems to be a difference in what different clinics say about that. I would say, don't worry about the damage it might or might not do, and go with the one that takes off the proper amount of fluid for you. You'll do more damage to yourself using a lower solution and not pulling off excess fluid. Hope it's continuing to go well for you.

Hi Claudia30,

I have the same issue.  My scale vs. the clinic is about 8-10LBS off.  Last month the nurse mentioned that my weigh was up by 10-12 LBS from the previous month.  When I showed her my CAPD Worksheet, my weigh has been consistant.  It normally fluctuate between 3-5LBS depending on how bad I eat.  I try not to eat too many bad foods especially "salty" foods, but the little devil in me just won't quit.

I currently only do 2 exchanges per day.  I carry 7.25% Icodextrin (purple cap) in the morning (good up to 16-18hrs.) & 2.5% Dextrose (green cap) during sleep.  Sometimes I may switch the 2.5% for 4.25% (red cap) at night if my blood pressure or weigh is up.  Other times, I will do 3rd exchange if I really need to pull more fluid out.  I did a lot of the 3rd exchanges during the Holidays.  You can figure out the WHY!!!
