It's 2:15 a.m. and I just got THE CALL an hour ago. I'm now waiting for the second call telling me to go to the hospital. My coordinator said it would be about 8 hours from the first call. I guess I'm supposed to be sleeping right now. Yeah, right! I'm shaking and excited and scared and nervous and thankful. He said it's a 6 out of 6 perfect match. He didn't say it, but there's still the PRA to get around. I could get to the hospital, and they could do the cross-match and have it be positive, then we're right back where I was two hours ago. Pray for me. I need this to be one of the 7% that would match me. Thanks everyone!

Piedmont in Atlanta, Georgia. Thanks for the well-wishes! I'll either post later today if I don't get it, or have my husband post for me if I do.

Hey,
I work at Emory!!! Tonight I am at the NEW Emory Northlake it Tucker.  We have 2 beds open no patients but have to stay staffed with one RN and one PCA and a security guard.  They tell us they won't really be ready to admit for about 6 weeks, so I get to sit here for 12 hours and try to find something to do.  Make sure you let me know if you need anything as you get out, I am close by.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the prayers and well-wishes. Unfortunately, it was not meant to happen this time. After waiting around all day for them to begin the cross-match, they finally did a biopsy of the kidney and we were told at about 6:30 pm EST that due to the donor having had a year or two of hypertension, the kidney was only expected to perform at about 70%. Therefore I would never see a creatnine of less than 2.0. The surgeon advised, and we agreed, that I am too young and have too much living left to do to accept a kidney that will not give me 100%.

The silver lining is that the surgeon told me that my antigen profile is not that uncommon, so we should be able to expect another call within the "foreseeable" future. Also, once we have a 6 out of 6 match, then there's a 90-95% chance that the cross-match will come back negative ("negative" meaning no reaction, meaning good!). So I'm actually in a much better place with this mentally than I was even 24 hours ago. Once I get over the initial let-down, that is.

Thanks again, everyone, your thoughts and prayers really mean a lot to me. You're all in mine everyday.

I'm sorry it didn't happen today Katie but your day will come.  Having the phone ring does add a little excitement to an otherwise ordinary day doesn't it!  Since this happened now you can reckon you are sitting near the top of the list so be prepared!  It will ring again hopefully soon.
