Has anyone gotten the vaccination to prevent shingles? It was approved by the FDA last year but I hadn't heard much about it. Shingles can be a big problem for transplant patients due to low immunity. The same can be true for dialysis patients.

Oooooh...I had heard that there was a Shingles vaccine in the works, but I didn't know it was actually available.  I will have to ask about it...I had Shingles a year ago and it was MISERABLE.  I've never been in so much pain...really.  I hope my doctor will think it's a good idea because I sure don't want it again!

I had a bit of a look for info. Australia doesn't yet have the vaccine. We wait until all the Guinea pigs have tried it first and survived.  ::)

Also from what I have read it is only going to be for the over 60's group.   :urcrazy;

I asked my neph about it since I had a mild case of the shingles earlier this year...he looked it up and the vaccine is not recommended for folks on a steroid regimine (which I am since they also took my adrenal glands)...it also sounded like the fact I have no kidney function at all would not be a good match for the vaccine, so we passed on it.

When I was 3 or 4 (can't remember which one my mom told me) I got a really bad case of the chicken pox.  It was in my mouth, throat, vagina, anus, everywhere.  Why it was so bad, I'm not sure, but it was.  I still have memories of it.  It's one of my first memories, and it's not a good one.

I had the shingles when I was about 19.  Most horrible experience of my life.  And I've had 2 cesarians!  I'd take childbirth and hard pregnancies and almost any other ailment short of losing extremeties over shingles.  But my doctor also told me it was the most awful case he'd ever seen in his career.

It drives me bonkers when doctors say stuff like that! It doesn't help the situation at all!!   :banghead;

Oh, I know!  Like being the worst case scenario shingles patient is a good thing?  Um, yeah.  I enjoyed the intense pain!!!
