Hi. I am caregiver to Bob who started dialysis in September of 06.  We have been on NxStage since May of 07 and are loving it.  We use the Pureflow but occasionally use bags if our schedule gets thrown off.  We have made it through the little bumps that NxStage has had along the way and it seems that things have smoothed out and are working pretty well again.  Bob has a graft which makes sticking challenging.  His first vascular surgeon was ready to retire and don't think he even considered a fistula for Bob.  If he needs a new access along the way, we will ask for a fistula for sure.  Buttonholes seem to be much easier on you than repeated sticking of a graft.

We are both retired, I from teaching, Bob from engineering management. We had planned to do a lot of traveling in our retirement, tried 'center hopping', but that doesn't work too well.  We haven't felt comfortable enough to take the NxStage with us, but are getting close to trying a short trip to the beach.  (we love the coast in the fall).

Hope this posting works, this format is new to me.  Sorry if I goof...  MEG

Great Job MEG and Welcome to ihatedialysis.com,

Just wondering what subject of teaching you and your husband taught? I hope IHD becomes a big help during your husbands dialysis journey.

I'm glad you decided on nxstage, it seems to be the best so far in home dialysis and for traveling. Have you and your husband done any traveling yet while he has been on dialysis?

Thanks for taking the time to visit us and I hope we see you often. Feel free to post as often as you want.

I too am a cargegiver to my husband Len. We also did home hemo but not NxStage (it isn't available in our area). Len had a transplant on 9/7 and we have had a few bumps to get over. I'm glad you found this site and please read thru the posts and ask questions. Folks here are great.

Welcome to our community, to you and to Bob.  That was quite fine, what you did.  We are glad you decided to join us.  I too am a teacher, but still have a couple years before retiring.  I was released at the end of August because I am on dialysis, but I am branching out on my own, with tutoring, French classes and tours (students/adults from the French=speaking islands).  What subject area did you teach?  I am English and French.
Please take advantage of all this site has to offer.  You will soon realize that this is much more than a site - it has become a real family and we welcome you as part of us.   :grouphug;

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.
