Favorite Christmas Movies

To keep from completely hijacking the Wizard Of Oz thread I thought I would start a new one specifically for x-mas movies. 

All time favorite holiday movies in no particular order.  I'm sure I am missing a few of the greats, but these are the ones I come up with off the top of my head.  Feel free to add more to the list if you think I missed any.

1. Any of the claymation movies (They were all fantastic)
2. How The Grinch Stole Christmas (1966 cartoon - though the Jim Carey movie was ok)
3. Scrooge (1951)
4. A Muppets Christmas Carol (1992)
5. Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas (1977 - another Jim Henson Creation)
6. Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
7. Holiday Inn (1942 - though it has all holidays in it this is the first movie with the classic song White Christmas)
8. White Christmas (1954)
9. A Bing Crosby Christmas (1998 - Who can forget the Bing Crosby / David Bowie version of The Little Drummer Boy)
10. Both of the John Denver & Muppets Christmas specials (1979, 1982 - can you tell I like the muppets by now  )
11. He-Man And She-Ra Christmas Special (1985 - for those children of the 80's or that had children of the 80's)
12. A Christmas Story (1983)
13. Scrooged (1988)
14. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
15. Home Alone 1,2&3 (1990,1992,1997)
16. It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)
17. A Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

I'm a White Christmas fan...a completely implausible plot filled with great music and some great dance numbers. And Vera Ellyn, that girl had some luscious gams!!!

My favorite is # 16 on your list. I watch It's a Wonderful Life every year. My second favorite is A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Yeah you have to go the black and white route for the classics like this.  The colorized versions just look "funny".

The best one is A Christmas Story!   "You'll shoot your eye out!  You'll shoot your eye out!"    If you haven't seen it, you need to!

My favorite is A Christmas Story.  Can't wait for the 24hrs. of this on TV.  Can't get enough of it.

I also love "A Christmas Story" with the dad's leg lamp and the brother in his too-tight snowsuit and dogs stealing the turkey. Hehehehe.

Another holiday show we like is one that I taped off the Disney channel when my kids were little. We watch the vhs every Christmas. It's "Muppet Family Christmas" --

A Muppet Family Christmas first aired on ABC on December 16th, 1987. It was re-run the following year, again on ABC, on December 2, 1988. It was then re-edited, and aired on NBC as an episode of "The Magical World of Disney" on December 24, 1989.

In this one-hour Christmas special, Fozzie Bear surprises his mother Emily on Christmas Eve by bringing the entire Muppet gang to her farm to celebrate the holidays. Doc and his dog Sprocket, who had planned a quiet Christmas, end up joining the Muppets in their holiday activities and preparations.

The Sesame Street regulars, including Big Bird, Bert, Ernie and others, join the festivities, but to Kermit's dismay, the only one is missing is Miss Piggy, who has been caught in a snowstorm.

Highlights include the following:

    * Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem play a jazz version of "Jingle Bell Rock."
    * Fozzie and a Snowman sing "Sleigh Ride."
    * The Muppets watch a home movie of their first Christmas together as the Muppet Babies.
    * Bert and Ernie rehearse for the Sesame Street Pageant, "'Twas the Night Before Christmas."
    * The Swedish Chef, who has been waiting for the perfect bird to serve for Christmas dinner, meets Big Bird in the kitchen, and the two sing "The Christmas Song".
    * Kermit and his nephew Robin visit the Fraggles, who sing a song, "Pass It On," about their tradition of giving.
    * When Miss Piggy finally arrives, she and Kermit lead the Muppets in a medley of Christmas songs.
    * Jim Henson makes a cameo appearance at the end of the program.

You can never go wrong with the Muppets, me luvz ANAMAL and Gonzo and Fozzie and of course the Swedish Chef, but who could forget Kermit and Miss Piggy,  i cry anytime i see Kermit, when Jim Henson died, i was standing in the checkout line at the grocery store and i saw Kermit on the cover of a magazine sitting on Jim Hensons Directors chair with a sad look on his face and i bursted out into tears.  (i'm weird like that)

So our favorite one for the kids (and the adults too) is Emmet Otters Jug Band Christmas -- Oh my goodness it is so so funny!  River Bottom Nightmare Band?  Come on - how can you not love that??

We also love It's a Wonderful Life (Jimmy Stewart is one of my all time favorites)  Bells of St Mary (I am with you Kit)  The Bishops Wife (Was remade into The Preachers Wife)  Miracle on 34th Street (the original of course) and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation (all those movies are great!)

I love "It's a Winderful Life". Jimmy Stewart grew up about 20 minutes from where I live. I used to watch "Bells of St. Mary's" with my Grandma. I love "Sound of Music". Sometimes it is on this time of year. I wanted to marry someone like Captain Von Trap and run through hills and meadows singing.

I wouldn't consider that a holiday movie.

Before the stations ran 24 marathons of Christmas shows, I liked the "The Christmas Story" and the old Berl Ives snap motion Christmas stories. Now da's I avoid them because I watched them to much.

Bad Santa had the correct title....it was just plain BAD.

I have It's a Wonderful Life on both VHS and DVD, never go a seasonw ithout watching it at least once.

Definitely The Christmas Shoes  and then The Christmas Blessing which follows the first one. Always makes me cry with the bitter-sweetness of it all. The Christmas Shoes is based off a book based off of a song.
