Santas warned 'ho ho ho' offensive to women

Wed Nov 14, 11:04 PM ET

Santas in Australia's largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday.

Sydney's Santa Clauses have instead been instructed to say "ha ha ha" instead, the Daily Telegraph reported.

One disgruntled Santa told the newspaper a recruitment firm warned him not to use "ho ho ho" because it could frighten children and was too close to "ho", a US slang term for prostitute.

"Gimme a break," said Julie Gale, who runs the campaign against sexualising children called Kids Free 2B Kids.

"We are talking about little kids who do not understand that "ho, ho, ho" has any other connotation and nor should they," she told the Telegraph.

"Leave Santa alone."

A local spokesman for the US-based Westaff recruitment firm said it was "misleading" to say the company had banned Santa's traditional greeting and it was being left up to the discretion of the individual Santa himself.

Are you kidding?  Santa has been saying "ho ho ho" long before it was slang for anything. We analyze things way too much.

Political correctness gone too far!  I am no Santa fan, but as Paris said, Ho Ho Ho was Santa's long before it became slang.  Santa should have sued them for using it!

Sounds like a typical corporate response. Always pointing the finger at someone else.

I think we all notice how political correctness is pushing for "Happy Holidays" over "Merry Christmas" so as not to offend anyone who many not be Christian.

I really would like to go back in time and find out when all this political correctness started because I'd like to put a stop to it.

I make it a point to always say, "Merry Christmas" on the air and I haven't had one complaint over the last eight years here.  It's a general term that shouldn't be taken so literally this time of year.

I guess the people in Northern California have a little more sense.

But we'll see.  That could change.

By the way...MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Should we say Britney Lindsey Paris Happy Holidays to be politically correct instead of Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas in Aussieland?

Geez, hate to have to replace the reinder names with those, that would be an insult in more ways than one!
I'll have to find my archive of funny Christmas Cards on disc to post later, just to early for Christmas.

Many times when I hear Santa I think he is a pimp calling for johns, I mean it's an easy mistake to make!!

I also get really confused when I take a sip of Coke -- I think I am getting a hit of Crack...
