Nine years, count them NINE!

It's not state-run healthcare in Canada that makes the waiting list for a transplant so long, it's the fact that of all the world's industrialized countries, Canadians are the most ungenerous in donating their organs!  Why this is the case is a mystery, since the country's official ideology is forever patting itself on the back about how much more humane Canadians are than Americans, but in this respect, they are selfish.  As I reported elsewhere, I conducted a survey of all the dialysis nurses I had during all my nine years on dialysis in Canada, and when I asked whether the nurse had signed her organ donor card, the reply I almost invariably received was, "I never thought of it." ?!

that is just simply amazing.  i never thought about asking the nursing staff if they were donors.  i wonder how many nurses or docs in dialysis units are potential donors.  just a thought.
