My friend, Denise, lost everything...

in a fire early this morning.  She got up around 5am and got into the shower to get ready for work.  Said, when she got out of the shower she smelled smoke!  She opened the bathroom door and the whole house was filled with smoke!  She closed the door and tried to get the window in the bathroom but she couldn't.  So, then she ran to the bedroom and realized her cell phone was still in the bathroom.  So, then she ran back to the bathroom and grabbed the phone just as the power went out.  She ran back to the bedroom grabbed some clothes to put on. grabbed her purse and jumped out the window.  Then she put her clothes on and went to her truck and called 9-1-1.  House is a total loss but she's okay.  She lives in Michigan and she said she only had insurance on the structure, not the contents.  She also said that it was started by her furnace!  Her son went back to the house after the fire dept. said it was okay and salvaged her DVD's and a some of her clothes.  The Red Cross is putting her up at a hotel and gave a gift card for clothes.  I'm so happy she's alright but sad that she lost pretty much everything!

mixed blessings. I am so glad Denise is safe, no injuries but I am sorry she lost her house. Does she have plans to rebuild, or will she simply find another place to live?

I don't know!  She's still in shock!  It'll take a while before the insurance company does their assessment!

Explain to her that it's a blessing she was able to escape. This may sound stupid right now, but that was one of my biggest fears, to wake up undressed to a fire, and the other fear is for a fire to break out while I'm gone and losing my dog. So I'm thankful for your friend to have enough time to grab clothes and get her vehicle out of harms way. It will take awhile for her to get over this and longer to rebuild but Thank God she is ok.

I'm so sorry about your friend! I hope things get straightened out fast. We have a 27 year old furnace and I'm waiting for the same thing to happen!

So glad she is OK, sorry for her loss though, some of the littlest things like pictures and such are something we cannot replace, it's a tragedy they were lost.

Here is a portion of her latest post on the forum we both belong to.  I had to edit it a bit, we're allowed to cuss up a storm there as long as it doesn't offend anyone!  lol

hi guys, here I am at the Super 8 on a Friday night...been there done that before, but this time I'm alone..haha. You guys are great, thanks for being there for me! I am doing fine, I went back to work today, and I think it's all really starting to hit me now.  You would not believe how many total strangers asked if it was my house that burned (damn paper!) So I had to tell my story, over, and over and over today.  Gawd I hate crying at work! I'm fine until I get to the part where my cats died.  I am now dealing with the Insurance company, and now other people (scammers?  I don't know) are getting my phone # at the hotel.  I am at a total loss as to what to do, I mean, this has never happened to me before.  I guess the adjuster wants to meet with me next week...at the house.  I can't go there!  I had to get my mail this morning and I couldn't even look at the house.  I really DON'T want to go back there, and there is no way I can live there if there is a possibility of rebuilding.  The house scares the shit out of me.  Does anyone know if I HAVE to keep the house?  I mean, I know they can foreclose on me, but I would hope I wouldn't have to go that route.  I would be willing to take a loss, just to be rid of the thing.  Any help in this area would be really appreciated.
My son got a couple more small things out for me.  He got my glasses that I refuse to wear in public, but my contacts melted..haha.  He got my computer, but everything inside completely melted.  He swears he is going to build me a "sweet" computer, better than what I had before.  I guess we'll see.  I (hopefully) will be in an apt. by next weekend...I get paid Friday, and hope to find one this week (wish me luck).  But thanks again guys for your messages, it really means a lot to me!!

I'm really sorry to hear about the fire and your friend's loss of her home and possessions.  It sounds like dealing with the aftermath has been very hard on her.  Thank god she and her family are alive and well.

I should think that if she does NOT want to go back, she shouldn't have to. Being in a fire is very traumatic. She will have flashbacks for some time. I hope she has someone there who can help her with housing, and getting possessions again.

Yeah, she has kids nearby.  I told her what my fiance said, which was that the insurance should pay the mortgage off or at least close to it.  And that she may be required by law to clean up the lot before selling but he doesn't think they can make her rebuild the house.  I tend to agree.  I mean, if you total your car in a wreck they don't make you repair it anyway!  I think she's doing okay with dealing with it but she is freaked out and upset abt her cats.  I certainly don't blame her for not wanting to rebuild there!

She is doing okay and posted the following bulletin on myspace which contains some exciting news...

 "Life's a bitch, but I deal with it." (Special thanks to Kid Rock for those words).  I just wanted to thank everyone for your prayers, calls, offers of help, and most of all your compassion this week.  Just when you think the world sucks, people come forward with love in their hearts.  My son has found a few things of mine that survived the fire. Some Kid Rock shirts, that hopefully eventually will stop smelling like smoke, a few DVD's, and my Earnhardt vs. Earnhardt poster that he says only suffered a little damage.
I am hoping to be in an apt. by this coming weekend, and am already starting to get back on my feet.
I want to say a special thanks to my Extreme Kid Rock friends Angel and Dylan.  Those two got together and contacted the Kid Rock camp and told them my story.  Now Billy Ritchie (Kid Rock's brother) wants me to call him.  OMG!!  This is crazy!  Now you all know how much I love that guy, and I am going to be talking to his brother!!! (ok, when I get up the nerve to actually place the call..LOL). This nightmare has turned into something I had never imagined.  Maybe I was getting a little too cynical and God had to slap me down a couple of notches..haha.
But thanks guys, your love and support means so much to me!!

She did get up the nerve to call Billy Ritchie who offered to let her stay at his house.  She had to turn him down because it was too far to commute to work but what an offer!  She also wanted to thank everyone here for their well wishes and prayers!
