Need help with a fish question..

My daughter's fish tank keeps getting a "green, slimy, mossy" type of stuff in her tank. This is now the 3rd time in a few weeks. When I first noticed it, I totally took everything out of her tank, cleaned the tank, replaced the rocks with brand new ones and such, put a new filter in, and the conditioner and so on, and 3 or 4 days later, it was back again. I repeated the process, totally empty'd the tank, replaced the rocks, filter and so on... and now 3 days later, it is back. I don't know whats wrong, how to fix it... I am doing wht I am supposed to be doing, and I am having no problems with my sons tank... could it be from the fish? Is the fish sick and causing this? I got no clue. Ideas?

In those conditions I normally would use a weedless spinner bait or a top runner such as a jitter bug. Do you have special conditions like no trolling. What about boat rentals are they available??

Or a weedless Wallydiver. Or better yet what about a "Purple Wurple"? Do Beta's prefer worms or Leach's? I got the boat Boxman, let's go!!

But what is the best way to cook a Beta? Fry? Poach? Broil?
Seriously, I'd look into a "cleaner" type of fish/snail/etc -- what everyone else here has suggested.

Brenda, Angela wasn't home so I snuck in and fished off the shore. This one hit a wooly bully crank bait. I was useing a spinning rig with 8lb test. Bring the boat by when you can we can wait out in the street till she leaves. Ohh I did throw it back to cover my tracks...

You use a filter with a betta? I've never heard of using filters with bettas before. I've had a lot of them over the years and never used one, just cleaned out the bowl every couple of weeks. I've almost always had mine in a vase with a plant in the top. The bettas eat the roots and the roots help oxygenate and clean the water. The slime probably indicates he's sick. I had that problem with my last one. He soon developed a black area on him, and then he died. I can't remember what it's called at the moment, but I'd prepare for the inevitable.

Angela, you CANNOT put any other animal in the tank with the beta. It will fight to the death, either his or the other animal's. Ours has killed a female beta and three snails. The green stuff is normal in any fish tank, I would try the tablets that Chris suggested. Good luck! (Hope it's not impending death, our's has the green icky stuff, too.)

We have a Betta as well and never have this problem either. What kind of water are you using because that could be the cause? I would suggest going to the store and buying bottled water instead of using tap water if you are using tap water now. The 1 gallon milk jugs of natural spring water are what you should look for. We don't use a tablet, but we do have some drops that we put in the water. Also as others have said DO NOT put anthing else in that tank with the beta or it will continue to attack it until one of them is dead. There is a very good reason they call them fighting fish. Good luck.

Okarol are you challenging me! just remember that with a Diawa level wind bait caster I have a great deal of range so I could drop a fuzzy bugger weedless lure from the street right in the pond and as long as I don't yell "fish on" to loud you would never know what happened...Boxman
