I was offered a flu shot on Friday during my run.  I've never had one (except when I was a child and was given a swine flu shot), and never had any problems. I'm still deciding.

Any thoughts?

I got a flu shot last year from my PD nurse, hmmmm, no one has mentioned getting one this year, i will have to look into it  :2thumbsup;  I have seen some people get really sick from the flu shot, well, to put it truthfully, they get flu symptoms (but they say its not the flu)  but everyone is different.  I'd rather be safe than sorry  :bandance;

Here's a discussion of the flu shots from last year http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=1782.0

I am planning to get everyone in our family a flu shot.

My neph called and wanted me to come in to get one and I told him thanks but no thanks. When I was younger they forced me to get flu shots every year, and every year I got the flu. I hated how violently ill I would become when I would have the flu, so several years ago I stopped just to see what would happen and just as I thought, no flu. Well every year since then I haven't gotten the flu shot and haven't gotten the flu!  ;D  If it ain't broke don't fix it!  ;)

I also have not been offered, but I will take it when it is offered. My husband gets his free through workk, and I need to take my son to get his. That way we're all covered.

I'm supposed to be getting mine this week during PD training. I haven't gotten one in five years, but I figured since they offered, I would get it.

I always have one. This year I paid for the whole family to have one. I didn't want the kids bringing it home from school and giving it to me!   8)

I get one every year because of the environment I work in.  The kids always bring the flu to me in the classroom. God help me without the flu shot!

I'll get mine this week. They had a bad time with the flu in the southern hemisphere towards the end of their flu season (August/September); if their experience is a guide this will be a bad year for us in the north. I hear the vaccine is not an exact match but close and should provide some protection both to not catch it and to lessen the severity if you do catch it.

I got both a flu and pneumonia shot last year. The pneumonia is only every couple of years or so. I will get a flu shot this year, along with my daughter, because we both have been told by multiple doctors it's a good idea (she's got asthma and allergies.)

I thought the pneumonia shot was good for 10 years. I have
been getting the flu shot for over 15 years since the time
I got the flu and was off work for three weeks. That was
an expensive illness!

I have gotten one every year for the last 12 years. Before that, I ALWAYS got the flu, and I always had it on Valentine's Day!! The 2 years I didn't get one during the last ten (due to money), I got the flu. I plan on getting one this year too, but I'm not waiting to be offered one! The moment my doctor walks in the room when I see him in 2 weeks, I'm asking him to give me one then!

I used to get a flu shot but the last few times I received it I would be one of the small percentage who would actually get the flu.  So I haven't had one in years.  What I've noticed since starting Dialysis 3 years, 5 months and 12 days ago is that I haven't had a cold, the flu or any other type of virus related malady.  This is one of the few, the small, the proud side effects of Dialysis.
