and I am 30 years old and have been on dialysis for four months as I wait for a kidney transplant. I have a loving, wonderful and supportive fiance, Dan who helps me when I cannot go on, and two wonderful cats, Henkka (who is 4 months old) and Elias (who is Dan's kitty, and his name is pronounced Ee-lee-is for those of you who care to know, and he is 2 months old.) I am into power metal bands from Europe (Straovarius, HammerFall, Sonata Arctica, Edg,uy Firewind, etc.) and I like to go for walks, play with my cats, and just enjoy life. I'll really enjoy it when I get my transplant and my mom and dad and my fiance go to the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany (Mom's paying for it  :yahoo;), but for now I have to deal with dialysis...Oh well, hope to be of some help to someone here, and have others who feel the way I do. (Everyone in my center seems to be so happy about dialyzing, I think they're doping them up with something when they're not looking, haha.)

Hi Chandi, Welcome to ihatedialysis.com.  Thank you for your interest in our site.  You have found a great group of people that are willing to share their stories, give advice, support, encouragement and anything they possibly can to help make dealing with this disease a little easier.  You will find answers here to questions you didnt even know you had :)  If you have any pics, we would love for you to add them to our Family Album and we even have a section in Off Topic where you can post pics of your cats (would love to see them) I am a big animal lover myself, cats especially :) :)   I hope to hear more from you soon.  :2thumbsup;

Not to be mean, but while while my fiance is supportive, loving and all that jazz, he does not take care of me. I do fine on my own thanks.

I believe Sluff was implying it takes alot to be a caregiver emotionally also, not meaning he does stuff for you.. just being there mentally and emotionally. ;) That's how I took it anyways.

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.

I hope you get a transplant soon, but I have also heard that dialysis in Germany is pretty good. There are a couple dialysis centers close to Wacken, you can read more at http://www.globaldialysis.com/centres.asp?countrycode=DE&region=Schleswig+Holstein+ - sounds like fun to go to that festival - lots of metal bands and fans from what I have read!
Hang on to that fiance - he sounds like a good guy!

I know you meant well when you said that diaysis is pretty good in Germany, but the whole reason we are going to Wacken is to celebrate my transplant. To spend a week in Germany and have to have 3 days of it sitting on a machine is no one's idea of a vacation. Dialysis is done nocturnally in Germany, and at night is when all the major power metal bands play, so no way I'm missing THAT to sit on a machine, yanno?  I hate it enough in America, so why would I want to spend all that money just to see a few low-rent wannabes in the afternoon and dialyze while the good bands are playing? I can see low-rent going-nowheres here where I live for free in crummy bars.

I'm sorry Chandi. When I read your post I didn't see that you have a living donor lined up. I don't know what it's like where you live, but here in Los Angeles the wait is 5 to 7 years for a non-living donor. I thought rather than wait to do something you would really enjoy, just to find a way to do it on dialysis. The Germany clinic I gave you is open from 7am to 7pm and offers hemo and PD. But I can understand you not wanting to do it, dialysis sucks. I always wanted to take Jenna on a trip during her 3 years of dialysis, but we kept hoping to get "the call" and never wanted to be too far from home. Luckily a living donor came forward and she is doing well the last 9 months. I hope you get a transplant soon.
