Tomorrow is the 30th anniversary of Elvis's death.
He would be 72 now.  It doesn't seem like 30 years.
I remember it like it was yesterday.
Big Elvis week in Memphis this week.  Would be fun
to be there (except for the 105 temps).
I have 2 friends there this week.
A guy who won the Elvis competition in March was a 19 yr old kid.
Funny how the competitors nowdays weren't even born yet when Elvis was here.
Elvis, wow, he was just great!  People still trying to imitate him, still buying his music,
still going to Memphis.................
Just sharing my thoughts.

yeah right, and I suppose you've seen him, Sluff.   lol
Larry King show tonight was from Graceland.
There were like 60,000 people out in front of Graceland.
It was a neat show.

Nobody knows I'm Elvis.

Verse 1:
B
Well i nearly got caught at a Burger King

And a couple of times on a plane
E
I thought i was safe from detection

With all of the weight i had gained
B
But walking around in a jumpsuit

That didn't work worth a damn
E
So i bought me some Levis and grew me a beard
F# B
And you'll never guess who i am

Chorus:
E
Nobody knows i'm Elvis

Nobody knows this is me

After all of my tries...i've got

The perfect disguise
B
And i'm who i want to be
E
Nobody knows i'm Elvis

Nobody knows this is me

Verse 2:
B
Bet you thought i was ol'Waylon

With all of my rugged good looks
E
Swagger and walk,body and soul

I bet he had what it took
B
I've always envied his singing

The way he played a guitar
E
Black vest and hat, that's where it's at
F# B
That's what i call a star

Chorus.

Bridge:
F#
I want to show you Graceland, baby

That's where you ought to be

I'll give you a call...but let's keep it all
B
Somewhere between you and me

Chorus.

oh man, that is tooooo funny Sluff.
That is a good pic Okarol.  what sexy eyes he had.
I saw him when he came to Columbus.
What an experience that was.
They played this music waiting for him to come out and by the time
he came on stage everyone in the place was in an absolute frenzy.
What a concert he performed.
We had seats on the floor not far from stage.
After show, lots of people rushed to the stage.  Whether you wanted to go or not,
if you were on the floor, you were pushed along.  Not that I didn't want to go.  lol
The first time we went to our church there was a guy there who was trying to
look like Elvis.  His wife had real long hair like Priscila did then. After church was
over and they got up and left I said to my son "Elvis has left the building".
Seeing the impersonators is fun but nothing like seeing Elvis.
I wish I'd seen him in Vegas.

Whenever you see an Elvis impersonator doing the usual Elvis tribute act, why is it I wonder do they always portray the older Elvis in the tacky white rhinestone suit when he was bloated and way past his best. I've never seen anyone yet who portrays him in his Heartbreak Hotel, Hound Dog and Jailhouse Rock period, that's the Elvis I like to remember. The American Trilogy concert from his later years just makes me cringe.

Actually when I went to an Elvis competition in March the winner was a 19 yr. old
dressed in Jailhouse Rock apparrel.  He was very good.  There were several there who
did the younger Elvis.  Most of them really.

Wade took me to Graceland on our first "real" date - totally wild, since we live in VA and it was a 14 hour drive!

We have become total Elvis junkies - we've got the bust of him on our mantle, I rock my "TCB" necklace, and next year (since we couldnt go this year, obviously) were there for DEAD ELVIS WEEK!!!

I was always fascinated by Elvis.  He always seemed to me a larger than life, unearthly type of guy if that makes sense.
My cousin Pat and I would watch his movies when we were kids and act them out, pretend we were his girlfriends (late 60's early 70's)  I always thought he seemed vulnerable and sad near the end like he had nobody who was really there for him, not hangers on or syncophants.  He had a group of guys around him who were always yes men, not letting him really be who he was--he always had the image to keep up with, the women, the outrageous things he'd do, the tantrums, the Vegas lifestyle. the FOOD!  :bandance; :bandance;.  I may be wrong but to me he was a simple country boy who would have been happy writing songs and singing with a family around him not a bunch of hangers on in it only for the money and to ride on his coattails.  He just gave me an aura of sadness and lonliness, you can be in a room full of people and still be lonely, and I think he was a sad and lonely man..  And the drugs......someone should have helped him get off them.  Threy saw the damage but noone dared to take charge and get him help.   I'll always love Elvis and man he was REALLY not the star--not that I ever met him but my image of him.
