Organ trafficking ring uncovered

At least 10 suspects arrested after undercover police operation traces ad in Arab, Russian media offering people money for their kidneys. Those found to be suitable candidates were flown to Ukraine for the surgery

"Wanted – kidney donor for monetary compensation," so ran an ad published in Arab and Russian language newspapers in northern Israel. Police investigators who were tipped off anonymously about the ad began an undercover operation that ended in the arrest of 10 people involved in the trafficking ring.

Those arrested are scheduled to be brought before the Nazareth Magistrate's Court on Monday after the State requested their arrests be extended.

According to the investigation dozens of people responded to the ad. The respondents underwent medical examinations in Israel and those deemed suitable candidates were sent to Ukraine, where the kidneys were harvested and implanted in another person.

"The donors would receive $35,000 for a kidney," Police Chief Superintendent Lior Boker told Ynet, "we haven't located the buyers yet, but we estimate they paid hefty sums for the organs."

"The ring was extremely well organized; each of the members had a very specific role. One would take the respondents for examination, a second dealt with passport issues, a third drove them to the airport… this was a well-oiled operation that operating according to strict guidelines so that there would be no mistakes made," said Boker.

So far police have been able to reach only four people who sold their kidneys through the ring, there appear to have been many more.

Police sources say that it is probable that the investigation will lead to charges against various medical employees.

This is not the first time that black market organ trading has made Israeli headlines. In the past a ring of Israeli traffickers was uncovered in South Africa and a recent scandal involved an Israeli doctor in Turkey who was involved in selling organs to hospitals in Eastern Europe.

Carol, again an other poorly written article with big errors. When people fly to an other country with a monetary incentive for themselves, this can not be called trafficking.
Nor is it illegal for anybody to fly to the Ukraine. It was mentioned in an other article that it is not illegal in the Ukraine to be paid for an organ being giving by the donor.
Carol this type of phony articles hurts who.? It hurts sick patients needing a transplant. Those Israeli patients have Canadian style Health Care which pays for foreign transplants if not available in Israel. The after care for those Israeli donors flying to the Ukraine is a covered service for life. Ditto for those ill Israeli patients flying to the Ukraine for a transplant.
So these are the good people that the Article slanders, while the naive American peanut galleries cheers the headlines using the word "trafficking". It doesn't matter that its a pretend only word which sells newspapers.

I am always glad to know when someone reads these news articles, Whitehorse. I include everything I can find regarding dialysis, transplant and kidney patients. Some articles are written better than others, but I try to include all that I can. Comments such as yours should be directed to the reporter and the editor, I think.

Epoman had invited Mitch here to show his side to Philippine transplants and stayed neutral, allowing everyone to present their viewpoint.
People had to justify opinions and backup heresay. While he was alive Epoman did not make any wish of harm to Mitch.
RossMan , is your display of hostility toward Mitch based on anything real ?  :oops; Mr. Administrator RossMan , you have been caught red handed.

Mitch was not invited, he was allowed to have one thread and one thread only by Epoman. Mitch violated that agreement and that is why he is no longer here.

Hostility?  LOL

Like Sluff said, Mitch had an agreement with Epoman which he violated.  So he's perma banned.

I even sent him an e-mail offering to discuss it but you he never replied to my e-mail.
