My older brother and me (I'm on the right)

« on: June 19, 2007, 12:47:32 PM »

My brother and I will be going to Baylor Hospital of Dallas on July 31st for the transplant.  I'm AB+ and he is A+.  We have a 3 out of 6 match.

Its been a hassle dealing with the coordinators but we finally got the date!   :yahoo;

No problem about being late.  I'm so excited but now that its only a couple of weeks away, I'm starting to get really nervous about the surgery.  Not sure, but I haven't been able to see at night very well.

Did you mean "sleep" at night?  :)

I was pretty relaxed right up until the day of my tx, then I started to get butterflies in my stomach. It'll all be over so soon, you'll do plenty of sleeping afterwards!

Have you thought about trying some stretching/ pilates/ yoga or something like that to help with relaxation before bed? Oh, and perhaps keep things like caffeine to a minimum, so it can't make you too jittery.

Wishing you all the best. I'm almost 7 weeks post-tx now, so if you have any questions, it's all still quite fresh in my memory!

I'll second what okarol says, avoid sick people!

For my final two weeks pre-op, I even stayed home. I'm not suggesting you put yourself into a little bubble, it's entirely your choice what you do. But I stayed home to avoid infection. Instead of going to my weekly trivia at the local pub, for example, I would stay home. I figured there was plenty of time for trivia later! It's winter here right now, so I didn't want to be going out in the dark and cold, and breathing in other people's cigarette smoke and all.

Put simply, take care of yourself the best you can.

Ha-ha!  I thought about putting myself into a bubble until my surgery but I have since decided against it.  I am working from home which my exposure to other people is not very often now.  A problem that I have ran into is I have allergies right now so I'm trying really hard for it not turn into a sinus infection.  My 4 year old daughter has the sniffles too so we are just hugging now.  I only see here Tuesday, Thursday, and every other weekend so I'm not going to skip the visit  ;D.

Thanks for all the well wishes.  I'm starting to get a lot of anxiety about it, both grateful and nervous.  The 31st can not get here sooner!   :2thumbsup;

Congrats!  Hope all goes well for you and your brother.  I'm from Dallas originally  - my high school use to be next to Baylor (before they knocked it down a few years ago).  I live in the sticks now and miss the transplant team I had in Dallas.  I thought they were a pain in the kicker then, but I miss them now.

Keep us posted!

Just a few days to go!!!  So exciting!  I am excited to hear of how the process goes as well... My husband is being tested now to see if he is a match.  I am listed at Baylor in Dallas and Baylor AllSaints in Ft. Worth.  Best wishes on a speedy recovery!   :yahoo;
