I am headed for San Diego the last week in June for a week's vacation. We are planning to do the museums, Old Town, and shopping in the shopping areas.  We will be in the downtown area. I also have friends in San Diego we are going to drag out and see. I am also going to find a beach and spend some time there, maybe the Coronado strip beach area.  Maybe do Sea World because it is fairly flat and we can do the wheel chair thing with Victor and I. Maybe rent an electric cart there, too.  Anyone else been to San Diego and have suggestions?

Anyone else have vacation plans?

Well i guess this part is not a vacation but on the 7th of july im doing a 5k walk for "habitat for humanity".  i did it last yr and it was very rewarding.  this yr i have walking shoes so it should be much easier on my feet.  ;)

We have just been confirmed for ...

...DIALYSIS IN NEW ORLEANS on July 2nd!ding ding ding ding ding!!!
 :bandance; :clap; :bandance; :clap; :bandance; :clap; :bandance;
(certainly not the high point of the trip, but a critical component)

We will be leaving Friday evening (after dialysis) and driving from Tampa until I can go no further and then continuing on across I-10 the next morning in the daylight so that we can see the swamps and the Mississippi and Lake Pontchartrain as we continue on to New Orleans.  :pics; We'll either stay there, or continue on on Monday to Natchez MS and and Memphis TN, or to Natchez - Jackson - Meridian MS to Selma - Montgomery AL, with all options ending in Plains Georgia  :usaflag; before hitting the interstate to arrive back home in time for fireworks on the 4th of July.  8)

This is a second anniversary trip - it was two years ago for 4th of July when we attempted our first real trip ( :canadaflag;) after Rolando's brush with death and subsequent loss of a limb. Since then, we have racked many, many miles both on the ground and in the air. :2thumbsup;

AND NEXT, AND THEN - LAS VEGAS HERE WE COME!!! (we are already confirmed for dialysis there and have received our DaVita name tag and DaVita leather luggage tags - ooh, ahh  :sarcasm; (bleah!) :rofl;)

That will be fun you two.  I love the Big Easy.  I stayed in an old house that was a brothel in the late 1800's.
Have breakfast at Brennan's.  Yummy.

Every year on my birthday which is in September i go to a little motel on the beach in New Jersey. I go after dialysis on Friday and leave on Monday to get back in time for dialysis. They only have two centers down in that area so it is hard to stay longer.

A friend of mine and I had planned back in the wintertime (before my husband had kidney disease) that when this summer comes, she and I would go to Croatia and visit the tip where they have very good beaches and take nature photos and do some writing but now I have something that takes priority over all else and she understands since "if you ain't got your health, you ain't got nothing"....she will probable take this new guy in her life but I hope they can switch names on the plane ticket......

Ya know, Tweety, I used to travel a lot and alone. When Rolando got very sick, I thought all that was over - no more travel because he needs me here. A little over two years ago, I was talking to his nephew who lives in Michigan. He invited me up. I joked with him awhile, thinking to myself I can't leave Rolando... and then, just like that V-8 commercial, it hits me. I don't have to leave Rolando in order to travel, I can take him with me!!! I think it was the fact that I was talking to his nephew that triggered that epiphany. Since then, we have been to Michigan, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Guatemala (3 weeks), Tuscaloosa AL, and many trips in state to Miami (they now know us and expect us at that unit) as well as weekends away at the beach. It is a little more complicated now, but for us both travel is the ultimate escape - from the hassles of my job for me and from the routine for both of us.

Kidney disease is not the end of travel. Hopefully, your trip is simply"postponed". Don't lose the dream!

Hey Tubes,

We're looking forward to meeting you in Vegas! Rolando and I are with you on that comfy bed and ac thing (makes me question our sanity in traveling to New Orleans in July - oh well, have wheels, will travel!) Good for you in doing the Habitat for Humanity walk. If you see Jimmy there, say hello for us. Or, if we see him in Plains we'll say hello for you (if you'd like). At the very least we'll drink some Billy Beer and eat some extra boiled peanuts on your behalf.

[img]I just got back from a fishing trip to Northern WI for a week. I set up dialysis at a clinic in Woodruff it was the only one in the area, they get a lot of visitors so I had to move my trip up a week to get in. All went well. The weather was perfect 80's and sun every day. Stayed at a friends parents house on Lake Tomahawk fished that lake and the Rainbow Flowage along with Mid Lake and Lake Minocqua. Best day was Thursday when we all caught are limit of Walleye then switched to perch and boated over 25 of them in the 11-13" range big fat ones. This was my first time going to a different clinic. My social worker did most of the work setting it up and it went real well. Can't wait to do it again.  Boxman55

Rob showing off his pot of gold!

« Reply #15 on: June 16, 2007, 07:58:23 PM »

We are scheduled to do a Cruise during the last week of August, it's the Boston to Bermuda cruise.  We did it 3 years ago and loved it!  Now that Rob has his Nx Stage we can do this.  We haven't had a real vacation in a while because of his dialysis, just weekend getaways to the White Mountains of NH or Vermont.  So we are really looking forward to it.  LOVE Bermuda.

However, there may be a chance we won't be able to do this (thank goodness for travel insurance).  If it doesn't happen, we won't be mad,  because the reason would be so worth the cancellation :).

I have a little mini vaca coming up this week.  I have Thurs-Mon off and I am so excited!  Nothing planned, just doing my gardening, laying by the pool at my sisters and enjoying life.

I plan to visit St. Croix.  It is one of the United States Virgin Islands, and I have never been there.  Of course, I am just a weekend traveller these days so I will go one weekend either this month or July.   I will take about a week in my home country, Barbados, when my daughter goes to start her fall semester there.
My present medical situation directs the kinds of holidays that I can have. :( >:(

Next week I will be in New Mexico. My girlfriend has a casita there and we will tour around the state. It's a great place for me to spends lots of time taking photographs and relax!
The end of July I am going with my 16 year old daughter and her friend and her friend's mom to NY for 6 days, we will see some plays and check out some colleges. I haven't been to NY for 10 years. Then Becca and I will go to visit a friend on Peak's Island, Maine for 3 days.
Then Vegas baby!

Kit - On the way to or from San Diego you might want to stop in La Jolla. There's a place with GREAT ribs in the village "The Spot" on Prospect Ave, and it's a block away from the Children's Beach where all the sea lions and their babies hang out. It's a beautiful place to visit!

Spent a few days in the mountains last week.  I thought of Sluff -- there were bikers all through the Smoky Mountains. What a fun way to explore the back roads! I needed to find some peace and being in the forest was a good place. Sitting by quiet mountain streams with no other noise but nature.  Travel has always been a huge part of our lives; we are just doing it a little closer to home now.  My daughter will be moving back next month after living in Hawaii for a year and then her boyfriend, who is a Parisian, will be here in September -- so I seem to be the vacation spot this year. My door is always open!  A couple of beach trips  -- love living in North Carolina. Lots of vacation spots nearby.  Also, Sluff -- I am from near Wooster and still have friends in the area.  Didn't think any one else knew where Wooster was (except other Ohioans!!).
