The first picture is my set up.  (chair $100 delivered from Craigs list!) I used to have a sleeper sofa where my set up is now.  >:(  But I'd rather lose my sofa and be dialyzing in my tiny apt than be in center.  I always joke about "my little crack house" After Vegas, Susie made me send her pictures of my apt, so she could see that I wasn't actually living in a crack house. (it is really just a run down bungalow from the 20's, it has a yard and plenty of sunshine and for NYC it is cheap - what more could a girl ask for?)

I'm expecting a delivery on the 3rd, so I'll include a shot of my wall of boxes then.

The second is my cannulation station/mayo stand (an architect's cart)

The third is the view from my chair.

I'm not telling,  (I should have turned the TV off).  But I am sure that there is someone out there who will recognize the show.  They can "out" me when they figure it out.  I like a little mystery! ;)

It is wonderful for someone clueless like me to see these pictures. I'm already planning a "clinic" in our spare bdrm!
kidney4traci, I saw your camping picture a few weeks ago...and can't remember where it is, either. Hmmm...

This is my CAPD (manual) setup.  I just started a week ago.  My dialysis nurse requires 1 month of experience with manual exchanges before we do cycler training.

Basically, what you're looking at is an area of my bedroom with a table that my husband setup with two metal sheets on the top (so I can wipe down with clorox/water solution).  Boxes of yellow and green bags are stored underneath and tape, paper towels, caps, Purell, clamps, and masks are stored on top.  I have a chart hanging from my IV pole to capture pertinent data.  The chair is facing a TV mounted on the wall.  The only thing I lack is a little table to put remote, magazines, phones while exchanging.

Here is how I empty the bags (hubby put hooks under shelf).

We purchased an expensive cart ($279) from Target, but so far, this make shift setup is working just fine--especially if it's only for a month or so.  We'll probably take the cart back or wait and see if it works with the cycler.

Update...
I had an appointment today with the nurse to start my PD stuff...

I made a mistake earlier, its 1 month worth of supplies, not 3 months like I thought!

We are also the same, I have to do the manual dialysis first for a month , and then the cycler

Kim, I also had to do manuals for a month before they would consider training me on the cycler. It was actually quite useful to know how to do it, though, when there were occasional problems with the cycler.

Hmmm. Different policies with different centres, I guess. If I switch to PD, I would be able to start out on the cycler. I would be trained to do manuals as well, but I wouldn't have to wait for the cycler. My hemo access is working better now, so for now I'll be staying with NxStage, but it's nice to know what all my other options are before I need to change.

Here is my PD machine! Back when I was on PD before (in 1992) my machine was a million times larger. =)

I have Alport's Syndrome. My kidneys failed when I was 14 and I was on PD for five years before receiving a kidney transplant from my mother. That kidney failed in 2004 and I've been back on PD ever since. I am undergoing treatment for my high antibodies at Cedars-Sinai medical center. I had a kidney transplant on June 10, 2008. My boyfriend was the donor.

My very first post!  Been reading the forum for the past few days...very informative!

I was looking at the wonderful pictures everyone provided.  For CCPD, do you go through 3 bags/night?  How do you warm all 3 bags prior to administration?  Do you have to wake up in between bag changes?

The machines used for CCPD have a built in heater to warm the solutions.

thanks Ginger.  Is the warmer the flat part of the machine on the top?  I just noticed in the pictures one bag on the top of the machine but the other 2 bags may be sitting out on the side.  How does the machine rotate and warm the other 2 bags?

Yes, the warmer is the flat part on top of the machine.  The machines take the warmed solution from the bags on the heater to put in your abdomen and then during each dwell cycle they pump solution from the other bag/s into the heater bag to warm so that it is always warmed solution going into you. If you check out 'www.homedialysis.org' you can see the different machines that are used. 'www.kidneyschool.org' is also a good place to learn more about kidney disease. Kidney school is in modules that are easy to understand and cover labs, diet, living with CKD and more and you can learn at your own pace.
