The important of social interaction for dialysis patients. I personally know many dialysis patients are very reserve and not very out going which is understandable. Dealing with chronic illness daily makes us want to keep distance from others or do not want others to know about our condition. I personally think street smart is mighty important , which I am lack. Any input on this.

I think a bit of both are beneficial, but we all have different circumstances and it's not always possible to gain both.

I would say I'm a bit of both. I am a fast learner and love to read, but I have also lived in some not so nice places that teaches you in different ways.

Yeah, I would say a bit of both as well. I wasn't diagnosed until last year when I was 34 so I had penty of time to get street smart. I lived in London for a long time as well and believe me, living in any big city you have to keep your wits about you and just be aware of what is going on around you.

Oh I am most definitely more school smart than street smart. I have almost no common sense!! Well, I do now. Just still a little bit out there in la-la land sometimes.

Yep, la-la land is where I feel I am at this point of my life. I think street smart reflect on the person personality.

More book smart than street smart here, but I have enough of both to manage well. I've known a number of people in my lifetime who lacked one or the other, and if I'd had to choose, I'd have opted to have street smarts anyday. The "genius" professors I knew at college who lacked enough common sense to do the simplest things were so aggravating to be around at times, I can't imagine wanting to be like that. It takes street smarts to understand the importance of common social graces, and people without manners are never going to do well in life!

Working with teen agers makes me street smart on a 6th grade level, otherwise I am pretty dumb about what is going on around me. Book smart is me.

I say school smarts is way better to have. I spent a few years on the streets jobless. Because I managed to find a way to survive without government assistance for the those years it makes it very hard for me to go to social services. They assume I was a drug dealer or something worse (they never say what). All I did was trade change. 75 cents for a dollar so people could catch the bus. The twincities (Minneapolis/St Paul) had over a million people going through it daily the average person loses more then 17 cents a day. If you don't add the numbers up there is not enough money on the streets for a person to find a living. If you have school smarts you can apply for jobs. County workers respect you. You have something to show for your troubles. You are not automatically a reckless badguy. Adjel

It seems like if u lack one side, you want to have the other side. So I think it is very important to have both for balance. Experience counts for everything.

st789 you are right I do lack one side. I think it would be wonderful if a person could have both. I get a Little upset sometimes at thought of seeing county workers who see my file, but have never met me. I'm not the situtations I've been in I'm the person who came out of them. Hopefully better then I went in. Adjel

I grew up in Queens and Manhattan in New York City and also went to college. It benefits you to be both, like in the movie A Bronx Tale you need two educations. It's also beneficial when you travel.

I have a combo, but most definately more street smart. This doesn't mean I'm not an avid reader with a superb vocbulary, but common sense just oozes outta me! Common sense isn't all that common anymore.

We moved every year sometimes more then once a year. So i will go with street smart but i did the best i could in school. Hard to be a good student when your always the new kid. And half my life was spent in schools overseas where Honkeys or whitey wasnt that popular. But i learned good life lessons from all that moving around. Only took me six highschools in three states to graduate

I think I'm about 50-50. I know I'm intelligent, as I proved it to myself when I passed the Mensa tests. I suspect that accounts for my logic and rationality. I also know I've learned a lot about street smarts by reading and watching tv.
