Going through life tied to a chair!

« on: May 07, 2007, 12:53:20 PM »

I went to an Apple store.  Very cool.  They have classes on Sunday for those thinking about Mac's.  I'm going to go before I buy a new computer just to check them out.

So how about you guys?  Apple or PC??

I'm just waiting for my PC to kick it, so I can buy a Mac.    It started making growling noises this weekend, so it shouldn't be long now.   :clap;

This is an age old battle with lines sharply drawn that is not easy to resolve.  Mac fans like the ease with which new software and hardware can be configured.  That said Apple hardware and software are much more expensive than equivalent PC compatible products.

PC hardware is generally much easier to upgrade as new technologies are adopted.  To turn your PC into the latest and greatest a new CPU or motherboard is often all that is needed.  Ditto for hard drives, DVD burners, additional memory, and all sorts of peripherals. Those kinds of upgrades are impossible in the Apple world where many of those components aren't available unless you purchase a whole new platform.

I have a number of PC compatible machines and one Mac running OS X which I bought simply to get to know the operating system better since I found myself working on those machines at work.  I like the Mac and what it will do with a bit of additional hardware and lots of useful software but I like my PC compatibles far better.

However, many people with high end MacIntosh systems report that simple tasks seem to be more difficult and take longer on their systems than on a comparable PC compatible.

For a person who plans to use one machine only I think the hands down common sense decision would be in favor of a PC compatible machine.
