Which is the most important to you when you want to meet someone? I know everyone says personality should be top of the list , but is it? Is it possible to go out with someone you are not physically attracted too, even if they have a great personality? I have always gone for the 'bad boy' types , even though i shouldnt! I just find i can be friends with a great personality, but date ? My friend says if she marries again , she will marry for money, but i dont think i could! I need to be attracted to someone, howabout you?

Good question. I think it depends upon how you meet them. If you meet them online, and are attracted to their personality, by the time you meet them, you don't care how they look. However, if you meet them in person first, then yes, looks would matter signficantly.

There was just a front page story in the paper a few weeks ago where a soldier had been severely burned beyond the point of recognition, but he  still got married to his fiance after he healed.  The picture was not very pretty.  I guess it is possible.

I guess I'd better meet someone online!   :-X

I don't think you can ignore the physical attraction part of the equation.  If you don't find someone attractive at all, you are not likely to take the next step in getting to know them well enough to develop a relationship.  Looks are certainly not a very important part of actually having a relationship, but it's hard to ignore their importance in getting one started!

If you marry only for money, you better realize you are going to end up earning it the hard way.

Rerun, that's how i met my sweetie! We've been together now for 7 years. We talked online for a month before we met. He was NOT my type at all...but I liked him and I trusted him so that by the time we did meet, we already had a conncection. Now, I think he is just adorable. I could not imagine life without him.  He is everything I need!

In the fantasy land, both would be great but we live in a real world.  Marry for money would be alright but I am not quite sure what Jbeany means by earning it the hard way.  If someone loves you then they love you.

Looks are obviously an eye-catcher, and therefore, often the first thing you're attracted to. But if I was to meet someone good looking, who quickly showed themselves to be shallow or mean, I'd be outta there.

I think intelligence is important, too. You need to be able to hold a decent conversation with someone. I could never go out with a male bimbo!  :D

Can't I just have it all? Looks, personality, wit, intelligence, and money!?!?!?

I dated a very nice guy several years ago. Great humor, very kind, I think he was pretty bright. Almost totally bald and very overweight. We were each about 30 and when I met him, I thought he was much, much older because of how he looked. I started freaking out that he might want to sleep with me and couldn't continue the relationship. I felt like an awful person that I couldn't get beyond the looks. I thought I was "better" than that.

My son and his wife met online.
After talking for a while he went up to NY with a friend and met and her friend in
a restaurant.  He'd go up there to visit and she'd come here and when she got
laid off she came here looking for a job.  By the time they met they had talked on phone and internet a lot.
But I sure was nervous.  I have a friend who went to an internet friend's
wedding, the whole chat room went and sat together.  She said it was neat.

I got an e-mail one time about the effects of drinking beer.
It has a pretty bad looking woman and row of beers on top.
as the beers disappear each of the pics. she looks better til the beers are gone and she is gorgeous. so funny.

There is a country song about this guy who falls in love with his waitress marries her and wakes up and looks at her
and says "Who are you? I'm on love with you baby and I don't even know your name" It is hilarious.

I don't know how this took me off topic.

Last year we had this exact discussion in IHD  chat. I told epoman that i believe looks are not as important as personality, he begged to differ and always said people were always judged by how they look... especially people judging him because of his wheelchair... sometimes i believe thats true. Its sad that ppl are judged as a person by how they look like, and our differences.

These difficulties is what makes us stronger and form our personality.

I think that looks might be important at first but i believe they better have more going for them or it just wont work!
