Hey everyone!
     My name is Nika and I am 21 years old. I have been looking on this site for information for a little while now and thought i should finally join and introduce myself, so here i am! I was born with small kidneys. They didn't do much about it when I was really little, because they thought they would grow to a somewhat normal size. However, when I was 15 they realized that they had stopped growing a little bit earlier on. Originally, the doctors thought I would have many years before I needed a transplant, but that wasn't the case. For the past couple of years I lived in Los Angeles, but when they decided I needed dialysis ( my creatinine got to 12); I moved back to Seattle to live with my family. I have a chest catheter and have been on dialysis since the beginning of February. I have such a deep respect for all of you who are on dialysis and especially those who have done this for years. Knowing that you all have dealt with this has helped me realize that I can go through all the struggles that are coming my way. I am also very blessed because my mom is going to donate her kidney to me on Monday May 7th. So far, I have been really calm about everything. My family tends to be extremely concerned a lot, so I pretty much try to blow everything off like it's nothing to balance it all out (even though that's not how I really feel). I just feel like if they see me concerned at all, it will intensify their own concerns for me. I love them all so much and I hate watching them feel pain and hurt because of what they see me go through. I am slowly feeling more nerves as the date gets closer. I know I am very fortunate, but I also know the battle is not nearly over.

What an outstanding introduction, Roxy.

I'm glad you finally came out of hiding. Welcome to the family, just so you know that once you become family there is no way out. JK.

We have a lot of information here for every age group and every level in your disease and all kinds of Dialysis type and Transplant stories. Maybe your Mom should think about joining IHD also. Thanks for donating Mom.

Again Welcome to our family.

 :welcomesign; Nice to meet you! You are getting an amazing gift on Monday. I can relate to what you're saying about trying to stay calm so your family doesn't get "overly concerned". Just remember that there are two family members having surgery, and they probably feel a bit helpless. I always tried to keep this in mind when my sister donated to me and my family expressed concern or worries...it's a normal feeling!

Hugs to you and your mom...you will be in our prayers. Be sure to update us when you feel up to it!  :grouphug;

Welcome to the site. I hope you find time to read all of the information that is here.  You have found a good site for information on kidney disease and dialysis.

Nika you are wise beyond your years.  Prayers to you and your wonderful Mother on Monday.  Please post as soon as you feel up to it.  A transplant is truly a gift beyond words.  The transplant drugs do a number on you, but it is worth it and after a while thing will get decreased.  Just hang in there.

Welcome Roxy, this site is very supportive and full info.  You will get to know many wonderful members and their struggling daily with this disease.  I really appreciate this site because this is where I can pose questions and search for helps unlike some people around you may not have  a real understanding what you are actually going through.  By the way I also live in los angeles, I am post 2 yrs anniversary of kidney transplants.  Again Welcome.
