I'm Brad.
I am on Hemodialysis and have been for close to a year now. I have been the grateful recipient of TWO living donors. The first one was from my dad in 1991 and it lasted close to 10 years. The second was from my mother which lasted 3 months shy of 20 years. I spent a lot of time contemplating on a 3rd kidney transplant but decided it wasn't for me to do that again. So ill just live the rest of my years on Hemodialysis and be thankful for the extra 30 years I had living with a transplant. I have read that the AVERAGE life span on Hemodialysis is 3-5 years and I'm ok with that. Desth doesn't scare me because I'm a Christian and believe I'll be in heaven when this life is over..

Welcome, bhall777! Sounds like you probably have a lot of invaluable experience. It will certainly come in handy here. Oh, as for those stats that say "only 3-5 years", well, probably best to ignore that. That scares everyone. As you find your way around ihd you will see plenty of people that have proven that stat to be wrong/incorrect/inaccurate/made up...I don't know which applies. Take a look around for yourself and you will see.
Being a Christian you will probably understand this..1 Corinthians 13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, ENDURETH all things"

Husband had ESRD with Type I Diabetes -Insulin Dependent.
I was his care-partner for home hemodialysis using Nxstage December 2013-July 2016.
He went back to doing in-center July 2016.
After more than 150 days of being hospitalized with complications from Diabetes, my beloved husband's heart stopped and he passed away 06-08-21. He was only 63.

You certainly have so much to be thankful for!! You seem to be quite happy with your decision not to pursue another transplant; I respect that. I hope hemo keeps you feeling better and helps you live a longer, happy life!
