Hello all, been reading some posts and thought it was time to introduce myself.  I was diagnosed w/ ESRD back in '82. Did hemo from 83-91 and transplanted since.  Kidney function right now is 23%, Dr. recommended me for a tx eval.  I have many questions concerning a second transplant that some member/s could address,  I hope I could also help as I had a transplant for 16 years and had many bumps along the way. Prednisone is NOT my favorite drug.  Peace,  FrankieB

Hey Frankie, Welcome to ihatedialysis.com.  So glad you found us, hopefully you can find the answers your looking for here.  Sorry to hear your transplant is failing but i must say, 16 years with it sure must've been a blessing, even with all those bumps along the way ;)  I do hope you look into having a second one done and you do not have to go on dialysis.  Please keep us posted.  Looking forward to hearing more from you...

Welcome to our community!  Your name made me give a double take.  My family (Barker) is full of Franks.  My dad was Frank, my brother is Frank and assorted nephews are Frank.  So we have lots of FrankieB's!
You have to come to the right place to receive answers.  And even if you don't get specific answers, at least you know you will have lots of support, and a group of people who know EXACTLY what you are going through.  Keep posting, and let us know how you are doing.

Hi Frankie.  Sounds like you had a good run with the transplant.  I hope and pray you can hang on to the 20%.

Things are a LOT different than they were 15 years ago.  Dialysis is different too.  You were probably on the OLD Drake Willock machines that were LOUD.  Well, these are quiet and with the hi-flux dialyzers things are a "little" bit faster.

I don't think it is as easy to get a transplant the second time especially since you had yours for so long.  There is a catch 22 with having a transplant for such a long time.  The good part is you had it for 16+ years.  The bad news is it has screwed up your antigins so you are going to be hard to match.  Other news is they can do things to help with this as you will read on this forum.

Welcome and I'm looking forward to your posts.

Hi Everyone

My name is Donna and I am Frankie's sister.  I am going to be tested next week to be a potential donor.  I have thought about this for many years and I am 100% sure I want to donate my kidney to my brother if it is a match. Is there anything anyone can tell me about the screening process?  I understand there is a psych evaluation too.  I would love to hear any stories, advise or suggestions.   thanks! :)
