Hello, everyone! I was searching some data on dialysis, then I found this forum. I live in Hungary. I was diagnosed with kidney failure last may. It was out of the blue, I had no kidney problems before, actually I lost about 90 pounds before that, so I was really happy with myself, that I felt so healthy, talk about ironic... then suddenly my eye sight was not as good as it used to be, so I went to the doctor, my blood pressure was 240. The same day it turned out that my kidney function is around 5 %, so I need dylasis right away. And now I'm on PD (I guess that's how you call it as well, the tummy dylasis :)), and I feel much better now. HD was not good for me, I felt weak, I couldn't drink that much water etc. It's much better with PD. But you have to change the thing (sorry, my English isn't the best) every 6 hours. But for me, it's worth it. Right now I'm doing the pre tests so I could finally be on the transplant waiting list.
So this was my story, short version. :)

Thank you so much, guys! Yes, PD does work for me, I'm on it for about 4 months now. I haven't felt this good in years. So I guess this means this thing was going on in my body for years. Surreal. I'm glad I found this place. Althogh I guess many of the members here are from the US, and the health care for example is different here. And the transplant as well.

Welcome to IHD Gabor.

Kidney failure sneaks up on most everyone.  We never have a clue that a problem is developing until it is far too late to do much about it.

High blood pressure has been called the 'Silent Killer' as most of us aren't even aware we have it.  We take our Health for granted and do not have regular check ups with our Dr's so we haven't a clue that we are slowly killing ourselves until it is too late.

PD is a wonder.  I did very well my first 3 1/2 years until one night I must have been to quick and not careful enough making a connection.

I had to have accidently 'touched' the open connector while hooing up one of my bags.

I was in the ER long before morning with an infection so bad, causing so much belly pain I could hardly even breathe.

The infection from Hell caused the catheter to have to come out and forced me onto Hemo.STAY CAREFUL.  ALWAYS.

Don't make my mistake.

Take Care,

Thanks, Charlie!
I'm so sorry to hear that, that sound awful. So you were on the automatic PD machine? I'm doing the "manual" one. Every 6 hours. I'm very careful, cause they taught me well at the clinic. I hope you're doing okay on Hemo. :)
