The news is not saying much except the surgery went well and she will remain in the hospital the rest of the week.  Anyone know what the kidney surgery was for?

The educated guesses are that she has a benign mass in her kidney, and the procedure was meant to cut off the blood supply to said benign mass so that it would not grow.

Of course, those who us who are more renally knowledgeable have a lot of questions!  I just hope she will be OK.  Everyone is saying that she will be fine, but I'm not sure why they are keeping her in the hospital for so long.

The post had some speculation and quotes from a Georgetown kidney doctor that there must be more to it if she is staying in for a week. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/melania-trump-hospitalized-undergoes-medical-procedure-to-treat-a-benign-kidney-condition/2018/05/14/62664afa-57ab-11e8-b656-a5f8c2a9295d_story.html?utm_term=.cf492e565831

I wondered the same.  Probably just an oversight.  I'm sure we all wish her well no matter if we are sane or a Trump voter.   :P :P :P :P   :rofl;

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/14/us/politics/melania-trump-kidney-surgery.html

Another doctor, however, said Mrs. Trump was probably being kept in the hospital longer because of her position. “That’s because she is the first lady,” said Dr. Jeffrey Cadeddu, a professor of urology and radiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. “If it was you, you’d be in and out in a day, I promise.”

Every news story has it in the politics section as well.  I guess because it would not be news except for the political role of herself and her husband?

I don't, given the unending leaks they could/should not try to keep something like that under wraps.

But I do worry that she could be moving down the path to needing the type of care we all experience.  But then they act like whatever she is being treated for is normal.  She should be getting the best care available in the VA system so hopefully she doesn't face mistakes or unplanned side effects.

I am not entirely satisfied with the explanation given by the clever clogs in the media that she's staying in the hospital for the rest of the week "out of an abundance of caution".  I hope that's all it is.  I'm hoping that doctors aren't sort of expecting to have to do another procedure.

Us peons are rushed out of the hospital at the very earliest possible time due to insurance/cost issues.   Trump is not under such a constraint.

Interesting, and very good, that there are no leaks from the FLOTUS staff. It can be done.

and meh, they're saying the end of the week (4 nights) not a week. Hopefully it is just the FLOTUS staff practicing old timey by the book information management: under promise and over deliver, and she'll be out sooner.

........... if we are sane or a Trump voter.   :P :P :P :P   :rofl;

Are you of the opinion that only the In-sane voted for Trump?

I've known of my insanity long long before Trump ever thought of running for office.

Insanity comes easily to me.  I suspect.   Being slight paranoid I suspect everyone and everything anyway.

Is this maybe another one of those 'Guy' things?

I hope Ivana heals just fine soon.  It could be the pressure of being so much in public attention has worn her down that her body is rebelling and demanding rest.  Some people just can't take the pressure of being in the spotlight constantly.

Wild conspiracy speculation that is probably dead wrong but presented for amusement (and massive credit if I guessed right)

  • The First Lady was in the hospital for an amount of time typical of a transplant
  • Precautionary "extra days" would be unlikely since she has luxury accommodations at the White House along with a full staff, on call MDs, and the ability to have telemetry; code carts; etc set up "on site".
  • If she was moved to the top of the list because of her status, or even had a donation bypass the list, it would be bad juju if it was made public.
  • She has been avoiding contact with people post-release.

Like I said, wild speculation - but I do not believe for a minute that a member of the first family would wait on the list for years in need of an organ.  Even notice how every celebrity who needs a liver seems to get one (Mickey Mantle, Greg Allman, Larry Hagman, Steve Jobs, etc...) and we never hear of an A-lister dying while waiting for an organ?

It'd be a living related donor.

If FLOTUS had a major medical procedure AND if the Trump White House wanted to keep it secrete - Trump would be accusing his political foes of having a downlow transplant and it would be a liver or heart so when it comes out about the kidney it will seem less serious. There would also be some elaborate kabuki so she does not seem to be absent.

You can pretty much tell what Trump is up to by what he is denying: no russian contact with the campaign - reality every time you shake a tree or look in a bush there are russians. Clinton made millions off pay to play - reality the Clintons donated millions to their post presidency charitable efforts, while Trump cashes in from every angle during his presidency. Accuses Obama of politicizing the Justice Department and the rule of law - reality, Trump has publicly and repeatedly demanded our justice department launch investigations into his political foes and today we have the news that Trump asserts he can pardon himself.

So yeah I don't think he cares what FLOTUS does or doesn't do as long as it does not include talking with Mueller.

LOL!

I'd LOVE to know how the White House could keep a living donor transplant a secret.  I mean, there are just too many people involved.  How about all of the follow up appointments?  Monthly lab work?  All of the meds?  Surely SOMEONE would leak news like this.

Maybe Mueller can find out...

Most likely he beat her up, or she had more "work" done to peel off the years.  Or she had a nervous breakdown (wouldn't blame her) or maybe she threatened to squeal to Mueller, or threatened to cut off his "manliness."  The WH is busy photoshopping her into crowd photos  or just using a cardboard cutout Melania.
