I got the call at 4 in the morning last week and had to drive about 150 miles right away. The kidney was put in that night and is responding very well. I'm off blood pressure meds too. In fact my blood pressure is running low. It's a matter of getting used to it. I lost alot of weight. I hope to gain it back.

How are you coping with the meds?  Have you found a schedule that suits you?  What does your tx team have you on?  How are you feeling?  Tell us more!

There have me on a 12 hour meds. Which doesn't work out perfectly. Lot's of meds. I break em down to about 4 at a time. My blood sugar is also running higher

That's not uncommon.  Drug-induced diabetes can be one of the side effects of these drugs.  I take prednisone, myfortic and tacrolimus.  I take the tac on an empty stomach and the other two meds with food.  I've not had any problems with elevated blood sugar.

HOWEVER, one time several years ago, I ate some bad salsa and was unwell for a couple of days.  I couldn't keep any food down, but I WAS able to keep my meds down.  The first day I felt well enough to get up and about happened to be a lab day, so I had the usual monthly blood draw.  For the first time EVER, my blood sugar was high.  So, I deduced that it was probably the drugs taken without food that caused this (and, the patient information pamphlet does say to take the meds with food, so duh!).  Do you take your meds with food?  If not, do you think it might help if you did?  Just a thought...  I do realize that some tx recipients will have higher blood sugar no matter what.

Again, I'm very happy for you and hope everything will be fine!

Congratulation!!! Went to class last night OSF Transplant Team. I Spoke to a lady that has a transplant and it's been 17 years now! She expects many more. They also had a pharmacist talk Anti-rejection drugs he said that the drugs , 3 They taper down The strength of them he said,  they stressed how close they have to watch it,,, like a new born baby. That's got to be so great for you, thank you.   take it easy.

My name is Bruce and I am the caregiver for my daughter Holly who is 31 years old and received her kidney transplant on December 22, 2016 :)

Holly was on hemodialysis for 2.5 years-We did NXStage home hemo from January 2016 to December 22, 2016
Holly's best Christmas ever occurred on December 22, 2016 when a compassionate family in their time of grief gave Holly the ultimate gift...a kidney!

Warborg congratulations!  We probably were transplanted about the same day.  I when into surgery on July 13th.

Transplant July 2017 from out of state deceased donor, waited three weeks the creatine to fall into expected range, dialysis December 2013 - July 2017.

Well on dialysis I traveled a lot and posted about international trips in the Dialysis: Traveling Tips and Stories section.

Husband had ESRD with Type I Diabetes -Insulin Dependent.
I was his care-partner for home hemodialysis using Nxstage December 2013-July 2016.
He went back to doing in-center July 2016.
After more than 150 days of being hospitalized with complications from Diabetes, my beloved husband's heart stopped and he passed away 06-08-21. He was only 63.
