Hi Im spud im joing because i've had a bit of a crash course in kidney disease haha. It started off with an aki because of a kidney infection where I didn't go to the hospital for a week even though I wasn't peeing cause i'm a bit dumb in that way and I ended up with a gfr of 2 and creatinine over 2000 on admission. My GFR has recovered to 15% but its been 3 months since my discharge from hospital and my consultant doubts that it will improve any further and that we need to start planning to return to dialysis and think about transplants which came as a bit of a shock as up until this point she had been mostly positive about my kidneys function returning.

Its all came as a bit of a shock to me as i'm 22 and never been ill before so its been a bit difficult because I find myself being sick all the time and being too tired to do anything. Ive also had to move home from uni which was 50 miles away so i'm missing my friends so ive just joined this forum to learn more about whats going to happen and stuff.

Hi Spud!

Welcome to IHD.  You are fortunate that your kidneys have recovered as much as they have.  While it is possible they may recover yet a bit more the odds are against you.  Still, there is some Hope if you follow directions well.  Most importantly is you change your diet to a much healthier one, reducing the work load on those tired kidneys.

You have a lot to learn in a short time.  Google 'Renal Diet' and see there is a lot of information on food that we never had a clue about before now.

Don't fall for any of those ads for 'miricle' herbs, drugs, or treatments to restore kidiney health.  They are all scams solely designed to take your money.  Proper nutrition is critical, not only for our kidneys, but our whole body and brain.  Alas, this isn't taught to us at very early ages.  We tend to eat what is cheap, easy, and quick.  All wrong.

Take Care,

Welcome.  I hope you are able to get your health under control, some people find dialysis quite manageable especially if its their main health concern and not another issue on top of other health problems.

Transplant July 2017 from out of state deceased donor, waited three weeks the creatine to fall into expected range, dialysis December 2013 - July 2017.

Well on dialysis I traveled a lot and posted about international trips in the Dialysis: Traveling Tips and Stories section.

Holly had a heart transplant at the age of 5 1/2 months in 1990. Heart is still doing GREAT!  :thumbup;
Holly was on hemodialysis for 2.5 years-We did NXStage home hemo from January 2016 to December 22, 2016
Holly's best Christmas ever occurred on December 22, 2016 when a compassionate family in their time of grief gave Holly the ultimate gift...a kidney!

Hi guys thanks for being so welcoming :). I received a letter from my consultant that stated that it is unlikely that there is going to be any further improvement in kidney function and at my next review they're going to plan to refer to the pre dialysis clinic which doesnt seem too positive so looks like i'll be sticking around haha.
