Hi aedquist,

Welcome to IHD. We are always glad to take in new members.  It sucks that you need to be here.  We are always curious how your kidney failure came about.  Was it a slow decline over a long time and finally your labs or how you feel, that made the decision NOW?

You will come to know many that have followed a path somewhat similar.  I didn't wait until I was physically 'sick'.  My legs swelled so bad for so long I kept getting infections within those leaks. At the other extreme some knew for a long time but until they actually began to notice a sickness avoided dialysis mostly with dietary improvement, which we ALL should be doing.  But some like me are stupid, eat much of what I grew up eating.  Wrong.  I am still learning.

Looking forward to learning from you.  We all bring new thoughts, experiences, that can be very helpful to others.  So fell free to join in, any time you have a thought or experience that may be helpful, post it.  Same with any problems, or questions you may have.   We are here for each other.

Take Care,

Welcome to the site,  after 5 months it should be getting easier, after 6 months I realized  3 things, first dialysis really sucks(same opinion after 4 years), second, it was getting easier, third, thanks to the IHD site I was doing better.  The things I learned here have helped, the best example is at six months no one had told me about The fruit known as star fruit, it can kill dialysis patients.  This is the kind of thing I like to know.  There are many things that can screw with my labs but a  fruit  that can kill me,  the center dietitian confirmed the facts but when asked why I wasn't told she shrugged her shoulders.
