When I had transplant 25 years ago my immune was basically zero
I got pneumonia so bad I was intubated for a month
My heart stopped, chest tubes galore, etc.  is it still
This bad?!

I had my transplant over twenty one years ago and now that I need another one I was told that only one of the rejection drugs would be different.

I do not know what medications you were on, but were they the new non steroidal type? There are other drugs that help with anti rejection also that are meant for other things. I had my tx 15 years ago and things have changed at my center, but each center is different in their drug protocol.

Neuropathy in legs age 10

Eye impairments and blindness in one eye began in 95, major one during visit to the Indy 500 race of that year
   -glaucoma and surgery for that
     -cataract surgery twice on same eye (2000 - 2002). another one growing in good eye
     - vitrectomy in good eye post tx November 2003, totally blind for 4 months due to complications with meds and infection

Knee Surgery 2010
2011/2012 in process of getting a guide dog
Guide Dog Training begins July 2, 2012 in NY
Guide Dog by end of July 2012
Next eye surgery late 2012 or 2013 if I feel like it
Home with Guide dog - July 27, 2012
Knee Surgery #2 - Oct 15, 2012
Eye Surgery - Nov 2012

I don't know how doctors determine what transplant meds each patient gets. My transplant was a little over two years ago. I'm on Myfortic and tacrolimus, no steroids. For me, the side effects are only a few and not serious, short term. There is of course, all the usual impaired immune system side effects or risks long term.

I got my kidney in '02. Over the years I've been on a variety of meds (changes for different reasons). I've been on Cellcept, rapamune, Imuran, Prograf, Myfortic but never prednisone. The only time I've gotten into trouble with infection was when I had CMV and was hospitalized for quite a while. Otherwise, I've gotten through everything that's been thrown at me, including pneumonia, a massive post op infection (due to other issues, and not the drugs), and a bunch of surgeries that went quite well but were scary.

Part of what can happenn is sometimes just bad luck.
