Hi!
« on: September 20, 2015, 03:55:02 PM »

Hey there. Just posting to introduce myself. I'm a 24 year old college student. I lost my kidneys back in 2008 to a lupus flareup. I got a transplant in 2009 after about a year and a half of in-center dialysis (which I hated), which I lost in July of this year. Now I"m back on dialysis, but getting ready to train for NxStage. I'm excited. This week is my last week in-center. Can't wait for it to be over. I've always lurked here, especially back when I first lost my kidneys in 2008. This site was always helpful in getting through it all. I figured it was time I stopped lurking and joined up. So, nice to meet you all. Here's hoping my time here is awesome.

Husband had ESRD with Type I Diabetes -Insulin Dependent.
I was his care-partner for home hemodialysis using Nxstage December 2013-July 2016.
He went back to doing in-center July 2016.
After more than 150 days of being hospitalized with complications from Diabetes, my beloved husband's heart stopped and he passed away 06-08-21. He was only 63.

Welcome.  I also am loosing my kidneys due to lupus, but I was lucky enough to have a 20 year decline after bad active lupus in high school before my kidneys were at a point where I needed dialysis.  I'm happy to say I've not have active lupus since the early 1990s, its hard to say when it really went into remission since I was treated with Cytoxan throughout college and Plaquenil until early 2000 when a doctor finally said why are you still on it and phased me off with a wait and see mentality...

Good luck on NxStage, it sure sounds like people feel its the best treatment.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. It's nice to meet you all. Sorry I didn't reply earlier, I've just been busy lately. Tomorrow is my last day doing in-center dialysis. Can't wait to start training.

Yeah, I was on all of that: cytoxan, plaquenil, imuran, prednisone, methotrexate. I got really unlucky during the flareup that took my kidneys and contracted meningitis while I was at the hospital. It made the treatment for the flareup more complicated, I guess. But it's all good.

EDIT: Corrected a few mistakes
