Jenna's first kidney donor Patrice ran in the Boston Marathon on Monday - she donated to Jenna in 2006 and ran the marathon 3 months after the surgery! She missed one year since then and (thankfully) it was 2013, the year of the bombing.
Her finish time was 3:38:12 and with the cold wind and rain she said, "This one really beat me up!"

Personally driving a car the length of the Boston marathon would leave me a wreck.  I am in total awe of some one who did it 3 months after major surgery.

It's great to see news like this! I don't think most prospective donors will need to run a marathon, but just getting back to normal life is a big thing and this kind of story is reassuring.

I think it's also possible to minimize the seriousness of donating a kidney, though it's safe to say that most people take the risk seriously or there would be many more live donors. I think it comes down to easy to say and a lot harder to do. Jenna's donor is a real hero.

Some centers have, in the past, minimized the risk of complications for donors, and hopefully that is getting better.

I am very glad to read this because my husband is going to donate a kidney for my transplant and I am very nervous
and concerned about it and very hopeful at the same time that nothing untoward happens to him.
