I tore my peritoneum

We're not sure how, although I have a sneaking suspicion it was my new vampire cycler , but I have a tear in my peritoneum.   I couldn't drain and apparently the fluid leaked out into my stomach tissue.  Ewwww.  Anyone else ever have this happen?

Oh man, i am sorry to hear that Chicken Little.  What are they planning on doing for that?  I know the peritoneum can ware out but i never knew it could or would tear.  How are you draining now?  are you still able to do PD?  Sorry for all the questions, i know there are several members here will probably be wondering as well.  Take care and please keep us posted.

I have to discontinue my exchanges for at least 72 hours and stay on a low protein/sodium/fluid diet.  Good thing I still pee.      It's really weird, when I couldn't drain my stomach was horribly distended and rock hard.  As time went on, my stomach got really cushy and I kept having to reposition my catheter in my patient's pride belt, because it was sinking into my stomach and leaving big welts.  I also have a slight stinging sensation all over my lower belly.  Very strange feeling.

On Monday I go back in for a test fill to see if it's holding.   If it's not healed,  I have no idea what they'll do.   I assume if I'm overloaded with fluid I'll get a new port and have to do hemo for a while.  Here's hoping for a speedy recovery so I don't have to do that.   Me skeered of hemo.

Sorry for all the troubles you are encountering, Chicken Little!   I would also be scared of hemo.!  Hope you heal quickly and completely.

Man, Chicken! I didn't realize that the peritoneum could tear OR wear out, as Goofynina mentioned.
I'm on capd too, so that's gonna be a concern now. DO let us know how you're doing. I wanna know!!

Hope things get better and your peritoneum heals so that you can do PD again. I know what it is like to have to do hemo for awhile. At least with a catheter on hemo you would not have to sit and hold your sites when your run finished! (Just trying to give you something positive.) Hope the tear is healed.

ChickenLittle, do you still have that "stinging sensation" all over your lower belly?  It may be calcium deposits developing, there is really nothing they can do for them, i have had them myself and they are quite painful.  Good luck and wishing you Godspeed my friend.

So, Goofy, you are saying there is nothing to dissolve the calcium deposits? How do you get them?
Is there a way to prevent getting them? Is Chicken getting them because she can't drain?

MyssAnne: I'll let Susie give you a better response since she has them, but there caused from high PTH/phos levels... over time... some people get them, some never do. I got mine in the form of sores on my skin which is called calcifilaxious (sp??) and they also hurt like a b*tch.. The only way they can go away is if your levels go normal and stay that way. (I dont know if calcium deposits in the stomache go away or not.. I'll leave that to Susie to answer..) however the ones on your skin do if your levels are fixed. Since my levels didnt go normal after transplant, I had to have my enlarged parathyroid glands removed... now my levels are normal and my sores are going away.

I don't want either the lesions OR the deposits! Having a preggo tummy is bad enough!

Yah, Idunno... The first time i was on dialysis in 1999, I never heard of binders and wasn't on any, and never heard of PTH levels or anything... I obviously never had a problem with them back then... then the second time around I got put on binders, and then started having PTH probs... thats when they told me about it... otherwise I wouldnt know either.

The stinging most likely from the dialysate saturating my stomach tissue.   I just got a call from my PD nurse who said the nephrologist just went over my test with the surgeon (scary!!!) and they want me back at the hospital for more tests.

My calcium deposits that have formed in my stomach are still there, the pain is gone though.  They are like knots under my skin, they are not noticible but i know they are there, i feel them especially when i lay down.  There is nothing they can do for them, I went to the doctor, he checked them out, verified they were calcium deposits and sent me on my way, and that was ALL he did, nothing to desolve them, nothing for the pain, Epoman was the one who told me to take Motrin for the pain, it helped a little but they still hurt like hell.

Did they tell you they would go away by themselves if your levels got normal like after a transplant or w/e?

Nope, they didnt tell me anything.  What is scaring me is that the location of these "knots" are right where they would put a kidney in if i ever did get a transplant so i am not sure if i am even able to get one now that i have those.   I hate asking the doctor anything cuz i always leave there pissed and feeling sicker than i already am.  UGH

I have a hernia at my exit site and I have to go back into surgery tomorrow to repair it and insert a temp catheter for hemo.  I'm so upset.  I don't want to do this.
